Lord Foul

I'm confused.... :?:

In AATE the Ramen were retelling the tale of how the Father of all Ranyhyn (Kelebrab er Kele errr you know who..!) sacrified hiself to Foul to stop the Ranyhyn from being killed.... the the Ramen speculated that perhaps it was the Lurker that done the dirty deed as Foul was just a shade and couldn't do it himself (in various other chronicles Fouls had been described as without substance except for his eyes which were like yellow fangs etc).

So if Foul was just a shade (spirit, ghost whatever) how could he walk among the Old Lords pretending to be one and deceive Kevin etc?

I thought it said he could have incorporated himself, but then would have been at risk of being trampled by K.

On a personal note, I've found this whole issue of K's death to be one of the most baffling things in AATE. It simply beggars logic that Foul would have had any difficulty whatsoever killing K in about a thousand different ways.

I believe that is so, he likely could have killed K in other ways...but think of all he gained by playing things out the way it was done...LF must have had to nearly bite his own tongue off to stifle the hysterics when K said "I'll sacrifice myself." Probably the best laugh he got till Kevin came along.

Probably wasnt laughing after the RoD was complete though, he himself told TC it took 1000 years for him to recover, I suspect he underestimated the power Kevin had, and his statement, "they dare call themselves Earthfriends but haven't mastered dead Kevins 7 wards, they are blind to their own arrogance." seems rather respectful of Kevin's might.

Actually, I'm pretty sure he did laugh at Kevin.
And I respect someone who can bench 100lbs more than 50lbs...but that doesn't mean I think he's mighty. Remember, LF is literally indestructible at least while the arch stands, and he knows it perfectly well.

Yet even though Foul could've offed Kelenbrabanal any number of ways, I'm sure there's some reason as to why the lurker is said to have done it. I'm sure SRD has some particular purpose for that little tidbit of Land history...just can't say exactly what that purpose is...

Foul? He's going to spend eternity in a Jeremiah box. How are they going to get him in one? Use SHE as the bait.

Unlike us, for whom "if you want something done correctly then do it yourself" applies, Lord Foul operates under the maxim "why dirty your hands when you can just as easily get someone else to do the dirty work for you".

I don't think Foul likes touching pure Earthpower, of which Ranyhyn are made. This must also be why he never touched the Staff of Law and never sought to drink Earthblood. He is corruption incarnate--I suspect purity hurts him.

Agreed...IIRC between chron's 1&2, he regained strength on the edges of earthpower, but that was possible cuz staff/law broken/damaged. Earthpower is sort of a mirror leprosy for him...it can't kill him, but can eat away/cause pain/reduce him.

I thought Kelenbhranwhatsisname was a lot earlier than Kevin and the Old Lords?

Avatar is correct, Father K was much earlier than the Old Lords. IIRC, in FR we are told that the Ranyhyn aren't in the Land at the time of Berek.

I love this analogy.

Only problem with the analogy is that Foul corrupts Earthpower. Don't think the leper corrupts hansen's bacterium.
