Does anyone here watch the BBC series, Spooks? It's probably my favourite television series.

I don't watch it, but my sister does, she's addicted to it... I only watched the last couple of episodes in the series, really liked it, but didn't see enough to get into it

I watched about four or five episodes towards the end of the second series. I liked it, and I'll make an effort to watch it in future - the first episode I saw was that simulated chemical warfare thing, and it blew me away 8)

I'm quite fond of spooks. I really liked the episodes in the first series where they found out the senior female agent (can't remember her name) was playing off both sides. Plus there was an Anthony Stewart Head episode, which is always a plus.

That said, it bears about as much resemblence to the work of MI5 as James Bond does to MI6. I'm prepared to forgive it though.

Glad to know you people like it.
Navarino - that character you refer to is Tessa Phillips, played by the gorgeous Jenny Agutter.
I just bought the first season dvd box set and it is amazing. There's one episode where one the characters' head is shoved into hot oil. It is really shocking.

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about that. Quite a nasty scene, I really wasn't expecting them to kill off the female lead so soon into a new show.

I've been watching this for some years and I'm amazed I had to go 8 pages back to find it. I've just watched season 7 on dvd and it's top quality drama.

For those who have not seen it, think of a sort of B+ grade Le Carre (which is still a pretty good grade). It's written from an MI5 perspective can at times be confrontational to a US audience, but it deals with contemporary issues with a key drama thread being the ethical line, the practical exigencies and just how difficult it is to reconcile the two, professionally, political and personally.

As with most ongoing series, its success builds on its success so the longer you go on with it the greater the quality, the greater appreciation of the character development and the greater and more complex the plots can be with a audience who have already invested time to learn the contextual history.

I just love Robert Glenister's portrayal of the Home Secretary, I might have to start a thread about fictional politicians and see if we can't create a world with politicians that are admirable, honest and decent.

I maintain that the first two series were the best ones (Adam Carter never really filled Tom Quinn's shoes), but the latest one was very good too - Lucas North is a good addition.

Maybe so, but that view of the US, as a nation and particularly as a government, is quite a popular one here. Confrontational, perhaps, but representative.

Season 7 just started airing in Australia. My god, what a fantastic start! A lethal virus has just been unleashed in London.

I think you will enjoy it, Infelice.

The first episode I ever saw was
Spoiler
the test of Tom's leadership ability in the event of nuclear disaster.
It astounded me, and I've been a fan ever since.
