Mainly for those started elsewhere, becoming

Though for any others as well.
Here's one from the "Corrupt a wish" thread - was relevant to the wish, but actually should be someplace like here.
Effaeldm wrote:...
Now, since the wish is going to be corrupted - I wish for... coloured baloons.
sgt.null wrote:strange mimes attack you outside your house, tying coloured baloons to you, enough to carry you away up into the sky...
i wish my books to be published.
Effaeldm wrote:(It was wise of me, even though I wouldn't value such "wisdom" highly, to ask for that. Your "corruption" was fun to read - I'm just very fine with what you described. Can you guess why? I have a few more hints, if they're needed.
...
Mainly the last quote - I wonder if I made this one too obscure? Or there's something else with this?

Mainly the first sentence in the last quote - doesn't that one sound somewhat strange? I used those specific words on purpose, and they may remind of someone.
(This you'd better not try to use while guessing. That's a character I was sometimes named after. The name I use on the watch - Effaeldm, as I said in the thread about names, is an acronym, and there's a letter from another of that character's names, or maybe rather titles, in this one. Though taking this as a hint is risky, that one isn't likely to be remembered)

sorry - it may be the pain meds - but i am lost.

Or perhaps I'm too confusing, though didn't really want this to be too easy. I already wrote myself a half of that name and the other half is described, though not actually written.
And I wish you good health and no need for the meds.

Just what you asked for, a map

Even with a clue, a particularly nasty one

maine as in Me?

Just some general direction - where you could look for that one. Very general, I marked a whole state. Though, had I mentioned some more exact territory, that could become no problem to guess at all.

You're a good guesser - not only about me here, your post really reminds about something. That is, another name I like to use, after some character. Sarge tried to guess that one, maybe you'd like to try as well? kevinswatch.ihugny.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=21046 - the "Exercises in distorted quotes and wordplay" tread.
And I hope to see you again soon
Cheval, you're welcome to try.
Anyone else interested also welcome.
Sarge, you can now use one more hint. That is, the fact the conversation above is somehow relevant.

Strange, appears very simple to me - the thing to guess is the name of a character. I have a nickname in his honor. And many clues about both me and the character.
Especially the oldest one - "(It was wise of me, even though I wouldn't value such "wisdom" highly, to ask for that. Your "corruption" was fun to read - I'm just very fine with what you described. Can you guess why? I have a few more hints, if they're needed..."
And the recent talk in your new thread is also a clue.

Some new strange hints
Effaeldm wrote:danlo wrote:The overly helpful new person wrote:That's not something to be afraid of, bumping old threads is good.
*you can't escape the electric eye*
Ah, I'm already getting named without using my actual name
Menolly wrote:
...and oy.
Here goes danlo with his teasing again...

That teasing is good and even useful
Savor Dam, thank you for the panoply summary, though I'd say Menolly's is close enough and quite clear.
Avatar, do you have a list? I admit myself (having gone off the rails)
Sarge, posted something there. Not sure it should be like that or there at all, well, like someone said (can you remember who and where from?), for the record, I tried. A link to some of the Lovecraft's short stories, comics version.
And quite some recent talk in the Guess the Next Poster volume two... game, like
ussusimiel wrote:Yep, she who must be obeyed.
null to join the game?
ussusimiel wrote:Yip!
A Jewish name for God that is not supposed to be uttered.
Snuffleupagus? *more about existance than name-calling but what the hey!*
Most of these can remind of names, but something may remind of a very similar situation.

So, to bracket the area of guesswork: a fictional character, who may have been involved in a similar kind of guessing game which may have taken place in Maine. Did he speak the words quoted above?
u.

A fictional character right. But the guessing game from the "Guess the next poster" thread I meant because some of the ways I was named there somehow reminded of this. Maine is the approximate location, not for all of the time, but for a serious period that matters.
And the words above are more in the wordplay field - there's one of that character's names there. A name can be actually a word or a combination of them, like in this case, and that phrase has one of those words and a hint for another one.
A quote from that character is present here as well, but that one is
seriously distorted.
And these belong here:
ussusimiel wrote:Nope!
Effaeldm wrote:Would you like to try to guess? Some situation is very similar.
I'd give it a go, but you'll have to help me narrow it down, and I may not have the necessary references. I saw some of the clues you gave. I have no idea where the quote is from and the only association I could make from Maine is Stephen King's Castle Rock.
So maybe we could do it like a yes/no question game. If I get a yes to a question I get to ask another one. If I get a no, null gets a go (if he's interested).
You are named after a fictional character?
Mephistopheles?
Effaeldm wrote:No, though I understand you mean me.
Yes, a fictional one, though the whole yes/no thing may be too easy here. Or so it seems to me. And it may be better to do the guessing in the thread I mentioned - this one is not meant for that.
And about King - he was born in Maine and, if my infornation is not outdated, lives there, so he places a lot of his stories on different nearby territories.

Stuck on Salem's Lot at the moment. If it's the wrong territory then I'll need a bit of a nudge to get me out of that groove. (I tried all the names of the chars I know, but couldn't find any in the quote.)

It doesn't show itself that clear - split in half, half-hidden under a vague hint, and not the most reknown of the names to start with.

Would a person from Effin find his name familiar?
BTW, did you know that there are over 200 names of characters and people mentioned in 'Salem's Lot

(I had to look that up on the official SK website!)

Hardly more than a person from any other place. The name I use here is not a clue, I already said that.

So little...

Aren't you at least aquinted with his other works? There are over 2000 in at least one of them.
And, btw, did you have a look at that site's start page?

So not Fr. O'Callaghan then?
I've read a lot SK's stuff. Probably the Dark Tower or the Stand has a truckload of names.
I looked at the start page of the site but couldn't find any hint.
(nudge?)

I meant you get the nudge you mentioned - to get out of that with the Lot.

Probably many truckloads

And not only in those two.

Oh... Maybe you flicked through really fast? It is even in two places there.
