Has anyone ever seen this movie? Paul Newman is a seal hunter in an apocalyptic ice age, where there are no children and is no hope for humanity. Everyone is obsessed with a game that turns deadly.

It's produced by Robert Altman in the mid 80's. Strange bleak movie worth a look.

I remembered seeing Quintet some years ago and decided to watch it recently. Yes it's bleak and it has a rather offbeat feel that takes some getting used to. Newman is the anchor that keeps the film from being just plain strange. For the most part I enjoyed it but it may be some time before I watch it again.
However BLEAK it isn't even a close second to On The Beach which I just happened to have watch recently too. :-)

I really liked On the Beach. Good cast and very progressive for it's time. Have to admmit, though, couldn't quite buy Fred Astaire as a scientist. I kept waiting for him to break into dance and glide off the screen into the nuclear cloud.

now that would have been a movie premise right there...
