Holsety wrote:Earthsea is AMAZING. I mean, I never did finish the last one, but the first one alone is gr9. The battle against one's own shadow, that takes on the form of all one wants as the book goes on, is supremely epic and beautiful.
Orlion wrote:Still haven't read Earthsea, though I have the original trilogy. Sooo many booooks... :S
Well, they're all short, quick reads. Not that they're not full of great wisdom, beauty, and magic, mind you. Some of the best stuff ever!

Holsety, not sure what you're aware of, so here's the books:
A Wizard of Earthsea
The Tombs of Atuan
The Farthest Shore
Tehanu

Dragonfly (Which is in a collection called Tales From Earthsea
The Other Wind

If it's possible, Dragonfly and The Other Wind are even better than all that came before. And, though not part of the main story arc, the other Tales are great, and a couple are fantastic!
All lies and jest

And disregards the rest

I remember trying to read The Other Wind and Failing, or I think that's how it went anyway.

Crap -- you mean I'm gonna have to pay *attention*? Sure, lemme go figure out when they're supposed to publish the results.
You mean that when Avatar merely "trusts" you'll do something, you do it? You are a kindhearted person.

I hope SRD makes the list!

Hehehe. I think I've only created "multis" rarely, and as a joke rather than as anything srs.

Dragonfly and The Other Wind have special meaning to me, thanks to Plains of Ra. But even without that connection, those stories are incredible and the best of the series, in my opinion.

Well it was a glorified popularity contest. You have to expect a lot of bad taste. Just be thankful the rule against horror or YA fiction kept Twilight from being included.

I have to say that, judging from the comments section while it was still ongoing, the final list is far from perfect, but much better than I thought it might end up.

Song of Ice and Fire was ranked a little lower than expected, other than that, no surprise there.

I wonder how many people who voted had actually read The Lord of the Rings.... it just seems like one of those books that everyone will list as a classic but no one has read.

Like Mark Twain says: 'Classic- a book which people praise and don't read.'

And Ender's Game.... :x

The BELGARIAD beat out Covenant?? There ain't no justice in this world, I tell ya... :x

Piers Anthony squeaked in. I guess that's to be expected in a popularly-elected list.

Wonder if rus knows that C.S. Lewis's space trilogy made it?

Oh, and thanks, Murrin. I was gonna check for the list tomorrow, I swears it!

Didn't take me any effort to check - both John Scalzi and Cheryl Morgan blogged about it. ;)
