Swedish version: really good movie! I enjoyed everyone's performances, the dialogue seemed to flow well (though I was reading subtitles, heh), the plot was invovled enough to interest me but not so complicated that I lost the thread. It was good enough that it made me want to watch the sequel and read the books.

English version: I can't tell anything from the trailer other than the fact that Daniel Craig is in it.

I've seen the swedish version. It was decent. I'm not sure why they needed to make an american version. Was a little odd since the movies were still recently released. I never read the books.

It's like with Låt den rätte komma in. They made an american version the very next year. This was a really good movie, by the way. The swedish version.

As we discussed in Gen Lit, it's because they weren't in English, and god forbid the Americans have to read sub-titles.

The GF said the Swedish movies were very close to the books. But read them anyway, they're worth it.

Agreed on the dubbing though, it's universally awful. Except in Kung Pow. That movie's awesome.

You may have been thinking of La Femme Nikita, also by the same guy (Luc Besson) and has Jean Reno who plays a "cleaner" in both. However, Point of No Return with Bridget Fonda was nowhere near as good, which was its US remake. I've not watched any of the tv series versions, however, so I can't comment on them. But La Femme Nikita was in French, and Leon was in English.

i am liking what i'm seeing of craig's blomkvist and mara's salander.
and well...christopher plummer. bit of spot on casting there. (with julian
sands as young vanger!! )

blomkvist annoyed me in the books. i think craig will pull that off.
and...the guy in the swedish version...silly i know but...not actually hot enough to over ride those annoying blomkvist traits to be actually attractive
to either his long time editor lover or lisbeth for that matter.
craig's hot in a gunny sack so you'd tend to overlook those annoying things
about blomkvist. in other words, more believable.
tho micheal nyqvist was good.

Just for shits and giggles, I'd like to see them incorporate Larsson's quirk of describing exact dimensions of living quarters. Preferably through incorporating it in dialogue.
