I think this is the first time I've ever posted a vid to the Watch.

Anybody else seen this?

I think I saw something like that demonstrated at an open day at university once, a few years back. A tiny block of superconductor floating above a magnet.

Possible adaptations for maglev trains, space elevators, etc?

If they can overcome the temperature problem...but yeah...transport, probably industrial stuff too.

Pretty cool anyway. :D

literally

I think the first application of this technology should be in making the ultimate cat toy.

Haha, I'm not carpeting my house in magnets so that the cat can drive itself crazy.

But it could be a positvely attractive carpet

The levitation bit I can sort of get my head around - but the 'locking' of that disk in space so it's position can be adjusted etc. and it's like fixed from above and below irrespective of it's orientation in respect of the magnets. Wow! Now thats a good trick.

Something to do with the waves that pass through it I think.

Yes - the scematic (?) showed a sort of bunching of the waves inside the disk an a bending around on the outside. Like the thing was held in an invisible vice or something. Very clever and I can't wait to see what the practical apps of that might be in the future!

Like I said, temperature will be a problem. Also, you don't want liquid nitrogen lying around where the public can mess with it...
