LEGO fans rejoice! LEGO has secured the rights to develop build-and-play construction sets based on The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit!
Personally, this has always been missing in my life. So I am very excited.

(I wonder if this deal includes video games?)

I have several sets of the LOTR Intelli-Blox. They're ... not Legos. (They don't stick together as well.)

Well, if we're going beyond Legos ...

I have The Hobbit (well, this one) which I play a lot with the girls, it's a very good game, I recommend it.

Also have this one, and a few of the expansion packs, which I don't play too much.

I have the RISK game too, love it. Twice a year play with my bros-in-law. Good times.

I'm big LEGO fan, so I think this is cool. I only buy town/city related stuff now a days tho, my goal is to have a city w/trains so that kids (and adults) can come take a look. My initial attempts have had people spending 15-20 mins talking about ideas I could do. I've found they usually think, really? LEGO city? yea yea. Then they see and suddenly perception changes.

But my son loves the Star Wars LEGOs I have, so that's a good reason to get some of these sets. We have a LoTR video game that he likes to play, and he knows the characters, so this will keep him interested in LoTR and LEGO, 2 things I don't mind :)

Lego.com has quite a bit of info about the sets, including the designer videos.

I'm really looking forward to the WII game tho. My son and I love playing LEGO Star Wars on the WII, this will be our next adventure.

EDIT: I was in LEGOLand California for 2 days last week, it was unbelievable. My wife, son (4.5) and daughter (3) all loved it. Thankfully, the 1 year old stayed w/in laws. We could probably spend 4 or 5 days there in order to experience everything. Very family oriented, and the mini-land area is unbelievable. You can't imagine the scope until you're there. Highly recommend!
