We need to gather some input for when to have Watcherfest NE. Pick your season/availability people!

Fall.

For those who haven't been by the General SRD forum in awhile, we're talking about a meet-up near Boston next year (2012). The next official E-fest is still set for -- gaaah! -- 2014, I guess? After "The Last Dark" comes out?

But anyway, *this* poll is for 2012. 8)

Summer. It's easier for people to arrange to be there then.

Also, next fall is too close to the Presidential election… Too much opportunity for Tank like discussion.

I thought this was a pre release simple watcher fest in between books...for next year to tide us over in the interim...

Tending toward Summer, due to it being easier to arrange time off. Dam-sel and Dam-et still had school committments that prevented them joining me for Elohimfest this year. By Fall of next year, Dam-et should be at University (I hope!) and Dam-sel will still be working with special-needs elementary students.

And if the cynics among you think having them along will change me one iota...you don't know me very well.

Thank you, Jenn, for applying your coordination skills to this effort!

Voted for fall, but summer is just about as fine.

Boston is a place I actually might be able to make it to, depending on when it would happen. As long as it's not on a Jewish holiday.

Looks like so far the fall votes are winning. I am thinking that maybe Friday, September 23- Sunday, September 25 might be a good choice to start looking into.

WF also mentioned Columbus Day weekend, which might not be a bad option for those who get the faux holiday off.... That would also give the leaves another couple of weeks to turn. 8)

But hey, whatever works. Late September might be good for cheaper rates. Prices may typically go up during the height of leaf-peeping season. (Altho I do *not* know that for a fact...)

w00t! Boston is not far from me! I vote for fall because it is my favorite time of year. But whenev's is fine with me. Put me down as a serious applicant, pending something disastrous happening.

September 25-26 of 2012 is Yom Kippur. Can we set this fest not quite so close to this major holiday, please?

Well, crap. That's a perfect weekend for me. That Friday is the fall equinox, which would be a great time for this Pagan to be outside in the pretty leaves....

Wait -- Yom Kippur starts at sundown Sunday, doesn't it? What if we did Thursday-Sunday for the fest, with folks leaving (early) Sunday to fly home if they need to?

Just looked again at the calendar. Jenn, are you sure you were looking at the right year?

Sept. 25-26 in 2012 is Tue-Wed. So we'd be talking Thurs., 9/20 through Sun., 9/23 for the fest. And the equinox is Saturday the 22nd.

Does that work better for everybody?

Heh. I just looked at a 2012 calendar. Yom Kippur starts at sundown on Tuesday, September 25. The prior weekend is Friday the 21st through Sunday the 23rd. That weekend should be fine for festing, leaving plenty of time for the observant to return home before the Day of Atonement.

I will venture a guess that Jenn was looking at a 2011 calendar when she called out the dates upthread.

[edit: ali was just a bit faster than I was...]

Yes, Ali, technically it doesn't conflict. Even flying home on Sunday because Yom Kippur doesn't start til sundown and it's a very personal day of atonement so no family required gatherings and there a bajillion synagogues in Boston if any jewish attendees Need to stay. I like that weekend because it's right when leaves are in their glory, lightening bugs are not yet hibernating and the cape and all of NE is at it's height of gorgeous PLUS, it's off season for tourists so cheaper rates for hotels. Plus if I am coordinating this thing I should probably have some admin say on dates and so forth. I can't make the weekend before nor after so right of coordinater says I get say. I haven't been back for over ten years so I feel that since I put my heart and soul into the last fest I get to have some say about this one....Any objections please feel free to pm me.
