Acropolis. Check it out. We're starting a new version, taking new players, and it's the perfect time for someone entirely new to jump in.

Give it a try, folks. It's great fun! And not in a bad, addictive way. I can stop playing any time I want.

Sure you can Fist. ;)

He's right though. It's fun. :D

I've thought about it a few times, but I suspect it is something of a time commitment that I can't commit to at the moment.

Not at all. You can play with minimal effort. Don't know why anyone would bother, but you can. And if a deadline sneaks up on you, or you were very busy the couple of weeks prior, bare-bones submissions are fine. Syl even says right in the rules:
Please give as much detail as you feel necessary to get the information across, but remember that I do not need to be entertained. Summarize if at all possible.

You don't have to write huge emails when saying what you're doing that turn. (Looks at Menolly.) You don't have to spend hours every day thinking of what you're going to do each turn. (Looks at... Oh crap.) It's just a game, and it's tons of fun! :D

There are multiple schools of thought on what you can get out of these games. Clearly, some play them for fun. Some play very competitively. Some play just as a way to explore writing stories...and have grown considerably in both skill and confidence as writers by doing so.

[Bogie voice] Here's looking at you, kid! [/Bogie voice]

I hate to write!
...I just can't stop the words that flow when a story finally does occur to me.

Look at me. :D It's rare I write my turn until the day before it's due, and although I think about what I'm going to do sometimes, I usually make it up as I write the turn.

It's a time commitment just to familiarize yourself with the background info before you even start playing the game, as far as I can tell.

I wandered into GT a while ago and thought, 'I don't know what this is.'
Then again, I've had the same thought looking at some spiking Asian fruits and still ate them, so maybe I should check out your link Syl.
Are freshpersons assisted?

Yup. Ask away. PM whoever is running the game in question, or a player. Or post in Discussion/Comments thread. Each game has one of those.

Some games more than others. The setting of Pantheon 3 was the same world as P1 and P2. There were times when it was very helpful to know what had come before. And it was also fun. But there were players who knew nothing about the first two games who did extremely well. Rogue Trader is a Warhammer 40,000 game, so knowing about that would be helpful. (Maybe necessary. I'm not in that game, so I don't know.)

OTOH, Inferno and Acropolis are entirely original the rules are in the first post of the Rules threads of each game. Not too long to read. You're a Demon Prince in Hell in Inferno. You're a deity in the world of Acropolis. There's no history you need to catch up on in either game. You just do whatever your imagination comes up with.

I know I would enjoy playing, but I'd want to throw myself into it, and would be frustrated as the only time I have to play is at work, and just typing up a regular post is frustrating these days when the calls start pouring in. So maybe at a later date when I have more time to commit.

Like Av and Fist said, you can put as much time as you want into it (more or less depending on your schedule), and it's easy to work it out in your head in your down time. But either way, that's cool. Players are always welcome to jump in whenever.

And background's not a big deal, either. I'm playing Goatkiller's Inferno game, and I barely know what's going on. Things are more effective when you do, but... All I ask is that people read the rules -- which are, admittedly, a bit more complicated than average, but nothing anyone here can't handle.

Uh, I know I sound like Fist here, but you're playing Inferno? Cool. ( I genuinely didn't know. :D )

According to the GT rulebook, Section II, Pragraph 17, I get royalties for that. :LOLS:

Ditto for me. And it always seems to work out better that way...

There's lots of players who can help, in fact the main reason I prefer playing RPGs on the Watch right now is the collaboration. It's got more group creation that DnD and other tabletops ever will.
