How come no one is talking about Downton Abbey?

Has anybody else here become addicted to Downton Abbey? This Sunday is the season finale, and I'm already depressed. I haven't enjoyed a series like this in I can't remember how long. Anybody else feel the same way?

I just finished episode 4 of season 1 on netflix. Reminds me of the show Upstairs, Downstairs. Pretty good.

We've seen the first 2 seasons, and will watch the 3rd season when it comes out on DVD next month. We greatly enjoyed it! It has one of the best small screen villians I've seen in years - the Lady's personal maid is a character that I love to hate.

Haven't seen it, but looking for something new. I'm not sure it's my thing, but the wife has expressed interest. If it's good story-telling, I'll bite. Can anyone sum up the appeal without spoilers?

My take - it's good writing, and the relationships between aristocracy and the service class are intriguing (in a "I'd make him tie his own damn shoes!" kind of way.)

The acting is quite good, the various arts [costume, set, props, light] dead on.
And agree with dlb...good writing, [I think because, among other things, the characters seem to have more story/lives implied even when they aren't in story/plot]...and interesting class/society relationship.

That said, it's my wife who really loves it...if you've never liked "period drama" before, it won't change your mind. It's first rate of its kind...but it's still that kind.

Just started Season 2.... so many people I just love to hate. The intrigue of it all keeps me coming back.

Hmmm ... I'm more of a "hate to love" kind of guy. I prefer stories that can make me sympathize with an apparently unsympathetic character (no surprise, given this forum ... Angus and Covenant two of my favorite characters).

But I'll give it an episode or two before passing judgment. Thanks for the recommendation.

The series ended yesterday....finally a season ended where its not all bad news. I felt they did a good job wrapping things up.
