Where I work, social networking and blogs have been blocked during school hours for a long time. Today, suddenly, they are also blocking forums and message boards. Which means no KW during my lunch break. How will I cope???

Approach your colleagues and start verbally spamming them with what you would have posted in Mallorys. They will soon petition the it department to re-enable forums.

I have the same problem, Deer, and have for years. I can't even check my personal email on my work computer. IT is paranoid about spammers.

So, yeah, what Wayfriend said - phone or tablet.

I get on from work on my iPad. (A gift to which I have rapidly become addicted! )

Sometimes putting in the IP# rather than the name bypasses the Web Block Program.

Perhaps the powers that be might have some more IP# info?

At one point, our IT department sort of randomly blocked the Watch. I whined to them -- "come on, it's a bulletin board for a fantasy author, and I'm a mod!" -- and they relented and unblocked it. Might be worth a try, if you don't have a smartphone or other snazzy device.

I can understand why they would block certain stuff for the kids (though I ain't approve of that either) - but hey, blocking things for the staff? That's ridicolous. They'd never even try to pull that one at the school I work. We got a flat rate anyway, so private internet activities ain't gonna cost a dime. And what we do in our breaks is no one's business - as long as it ain't illegal. So what's the problem?

Proxies may help - either an online one through a proxy site, or, especially if those sites are blocked as well, something like TOR. All the needed information should be here proxy.org/

Sheesh, you'd die waiting for some threads to load via TOR.

But yes, there are ways around. There are some web-based anonymous proxies just work in your browser too.

It would be interesting to see if my workplace blocks the proxy sites. Bet they do!

There is code.google.com/speed/public-dns/ but that won't work from your office. It will work if your isp blocks sites, though.

It may have been a fluke. Today, I'm able to get on.

I use proxy servers when I have to-- for online banking (can't imagine why most financial services block Nigeria) but find them so annoying it wouldn't be any fun for recreational posting.
