Another bomb in Jos

Story here: www.newsday.com/news/nation/suicide-car ... -1.3558254

This is not my church, although I used to go to a Bible study there and know people who go there.

We're staying home today. I wanted to go to church but kept getting texts to "stay home" so I finally decided against it.

Much appreciated.

A coworker was at the church with their kids when the bomb went off. They weren't hurt but it was of course quite traumatic. A lot of people came to see what happened and the police and soldiers shot into the air to make them disperse, which is typical and moronic, of course.

Ali: we talk about that frequently. All we can say is, not yet. In fact, school opened normally today-- thank God. Sitting at home waiting for something or nothing to happen is the worst.

One of the children in my class was in the church when the explosion happened. I gave her a big hug today. (sure glad I'm in a school where I can do that!) Another coworker was also there with her kids, one of them a former student of mine.

Keep that head down, Deer. And by God yes, stay home. I can only hope that this is a short bad stretch and the violence goes somewhere else. (It seems like too much to hope it stops altogether.)

I did on Sunday, but life goes on. I walk tall. What they want, after all, is people cowering. But I do appreciate your concern.

Yes, violence is the way of the world. Got my hope in something else. :)

i think about you a lot over there deer.
i am like ali...i'd prefer you'd think about coming back
over here and i wanna say "time to come home now"
but my guess is that you are already home and it'd be
silly to say that playing it safe is always the right choice.
we all know it's not and you didn't go there to be safe.
so take care of yourself and your family best you can.
we'll all be keeping you in our thoughts.

i've got several candles burnin tonight, one more will just make it brighter in here.

ps. i liked that, Avatar. africa is not for sissies. we knew that. ;)

Hahaha, I thought I'd said it often, but I must be thinking about RL, 'cause I see I've only said it on here once and that was years ago.

When we hear about something brutal or tragic, it's not an uncommon response. Casual violence is commonplace and life is often cheap.

Saw on the news last night that some school kids chased down and beat to death a few guys that had tried to rob them yesterday, for example.

Deer, I heard about this on the radio news just now and thought of you. Glad to hear your family are OK. It said no deaths but some very serious injuries. It's strange, but I'd never heard of Jos until I joined the Watch, and the news report would have meant nothing to me until then, but today I suddenly had butterflies in my stomach when I heard it mentioned.

The Watch brings lots of places around the world close to home for me. :)

Glad to hear your family is okay, DotD.
