Didn't expect to see me start a thread in here, didja?!

Been playing this weekend. Never played anthing at all on X-Box, but my son has it. It looked good, and it is. Unfortunately, I suck at it, never having used these controls before. But I'm getting there. I'm a magic user (whatever they're called in the game) named Pran Chole. (heh) I get killed by skeletons, and horses, and probably the rain even. But I've begun to understand it, and get better at moving around, and I've killed some necromancers and crap now.

My son killed an Ancient Dragon today. He says that's a big deal. First time he ever ran into one. Killed it without dying once, which he also says in a big deal. Ah, makes a father proud!! :D

After the first week or two, I stopped playing it. It was really fun, but lately I'm into games that I can jump into and out of... I guess I'm not so much a hardcore gamer anymore, and more of the casual crowd :(

Dragons are about the same difficulty no matter what level you are; the different types show up at higher levels, but all of them scale with you. I have had a Blood Dragon and Elder Dragon show up at the same time before; now that's a challenge. Turn up the difficulty and see what happens. ;)

I had a moment of actual competence today! Heh. Fought an ice-spike-throwing necromancer woman. I was dodging and firing back with fire bolts, and switching back to oakflesh when necessary. I think she ran away, or maybe just lost track of me when I ducked around the corner. I'm at Adept level, btw.

Glad to see you are enjoying it. I have been playing through it slowly. ArchMage and MainQuest are finished, working on the others. I have not ended the civil war yet as I am trying to get as much out of the Greybeards as I can before having to side with the blades and go after Par at the Throat of the World...

It is impressive and imaginative and I am having a great time.

I'm afraid I've been too busy trying to get used to operating the controls to follow the story. But I know the Imperials are always upset about something or other, and the worship of some man-become-god is now forbidden.

Finally got back into the game yesterday. An Ancient dragon was camping the College of Winterhold, and it took me a while to get it down - mostly because it won't land on the bridge, I can't reach it when it lands on rooves in the town, and I had to eventually just run out of town soon as I fast travelled in and wait for it to come to me. Damn thing would kill me in one hit with its breath if I didn't have my shield up, and do no damage at all if I did (Spellbreaker is overpowered).

Dan said he ran into two at once yesterday. He didn't survive the encounter. heh

If you play a melee/block character, Spellbreaker is very much worth getting. It's a Daedric artifact, a shield that absorbs 50 damage from spells while blocking. Combined with the Block perk that reduces magic damage 50% while blocking, you can take pretty much no damage from magic while your shield is up. Like I said, that shield is the difference between a dragon killing me in one breath and taking no damage at all.

I'll ask him if he has one. I doubt it's good for me, since I'm a mage?

I found the most effective combat for dragons (pre-learning the shout that grounds them), having Healing going on in the Left Hand while using a Staff of Fireballs in the Right. (and if you can conjur a flame atronoch at the same time, it will fire on it as well...).

Really, REALLY wish I could find a Speechcraft Trainer. THAT would get me to where I need to be and invest money.

IIRC the female beggar in Windhelm is a speech trainer. Usually right in front of the entrance.

Thanks, Murrin. I'll try it!

Murrin,

The femal beggar in Windhelm in front of the blue palace in my game is a Pickpocket trainer...do you mean outside the city walls? I can't seem to find the speech trainer...

Sigh...

But I have to paint my daughter's room, so I should probably get off line and back to work (but the paint fumes let the imagination run wild...LOL!)

Nah, guess I got it wrong. Have you tried the Bard's College?

Just had to spend five minutes fus-roh-da-ing Lydia over a mountain where she was refusing to follow. Full-on fus-roh-da, too, so I had to hope each time she didn't die from fall damage.

Quest I was on was another fun one where you can cheat it for multiple rewards. Hircine - I helped Sinding kill the hunters, ran out for my reward, ran back in, killed Sinding, and got the alternate reward too. Two Daedric artifacts for the price of one. \o/

Edit: And the kicker? I just ran into Sinding wandering around alive in another part of the world.

The other one I played like that was the woman in the Whiterun inn. Agree to help her out, go to the bandit cave. Agree with the bandit leader to lure her out to the stables. Lure her out, bandit leader appears and rewards you. Kill bandit leader, use Voice of the Emperor (or the calming shout) to make her non-hostile, accept reward for killing him. Kill her when the shout wears off and she attacks you for betraying her. Loot both of them. Yay.

I'm working on the last town atm. Falkreath, never went there before today. I'm Thane in every other town already. Once I've done all the sidequests here, I'll carry on the civil war and the main quest.
