The Runaways

I loved this film about the early days of girl rock bands. Kristin Stewart plays Joan Jett but lets Dakota Fanning, playing Cherie Currie, get most of the attention.

Just the right amount of music-- left you wanting more, in fact-- and neither glorified nor exploited nor condemned the drugs and sex nightmare that almost destroyed Cherie-- just told the story. Most memorable line was Manager Kim Fowley saying "She's sixteen years old. And already a creep."

(The Bowie haircuts on girls are still just as godawful as they were in the 70s, though. :) Kudos to Stewart and Fanning for being brave enough!)

Joan Jett's cool; I like how she helped the Gits find the guy who killed Mia Zapata, their lead singer.

Seattle got together and did an album to raise money whose proceeds go to Home Alive, a Seattle-area non-profit organization dedicated to providing self-defense training and resources to combat violence.

Joan also played with the Gits, they released an album (as Evil Stig)

I actually never realized how legit Joan Jett was. Now I want to know more, and I have a new appreciation for her music.
