The accent goes the other way in touché (alt+0233)
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Tried it both ways (as the actress said to the bishop  ) and it doesn't seem to do anything. What am I doing wrong. I type the e, press alt (and hold it down), press 0233 and shit happens, press enter and shit happens. I mean guys - how hard can it be!

(I wanted to say you were both a bit touched[with a french thingee over the e] - a nice little play on words/accents I thought but my computer illiteracy came round and bit me on the arse again  )

You probably have num lock turned off, I think it's required. You don't type the e first. You don't press enter.

Hand of fate is moving
And the finger points to you
He knocks you to your feet
And so what are you gonna do

Your tongue has frozen now
You've got something to say
The piper at the gates of dawn
Is calling you his way

You watch the world exploding every single night
Dancing in the sun a newborn in the light
Say goodbye to gravity and say goodbye to death
Hello to eternity and live for every breath

Your time will come
Your time will come
Your time will come
Your time will come

The ferryman wants his money
You ain't going to give it back
He can push his own boat
As you set up off the track

Nothing you can contemplate
Will ever be the same
Every second is a new spark
Sets the universe aflame

You watch the world exploding every single night
Dancing in the sun a newborn in the light
Brothers and their fathers joining hands and make a chain
The shadow of the wicker man is rising up again

Your time will come
Your time will come
Your time will come
Your time will come

Your time will come
Your time will come
Your time will come
Your time will come

Your time will come
Your time will come
Your time will come
Your time will come

Ali, that's the kind of weak-wristed insult I'd expect from a leftist of your ilk. You came close on the Martin bit, but I think your failure to follow through probably stems from the fact that, as a real writer, you pretty much know everything I said about him was true. Of course, since I said it, that goes without saying.

Deer, I don't see how such a pretty little mouth could say such nasty things, but I like it.

Ananda, I have to give you props. Not for the insult, of course, but because you're from a socialist country that has continually benefited from American largess and far be it for me to break the tradition of giving you things you don't deserve.

Damelon, the day I take lessons on generosity from a man who chooses a Scottish icon (played by an Irishman) as an avatar is the day I eat haggis. What, Scrooge McDuck wasn't serious enough for you?

Foul, your word and 50 cents would just about buy me a cup of coffee. That is, it would if I stood outside the coffee shop begging change for a couple hours. Speaking of which, does that English degree help you write more compelling cardboard signs?

Menolly and Caelyn, if this was a contest about creeping me out, you would've won hands down.

Yes, Ron, I am a big man and I have a big gun. I notice you didn't show my avatar from the adult sites I visit. I mean, I know you've seen it, judging from the private messages you (Sex Nihilatio) sent me (it's always the conservative types soliciting it behind closed doors). I can see why you didn't, though, since that one truly is intimidating.

Null... oh, man. I'm glad you stuck to your normal style, because being insulted by a clown would be both horrifying and more shame than I could probably bear.

Uss, I have found the monitoring devices you planted in my office, and considering I work in a Federal building, the secret service should be calling you shortly. I will wait for your prison letters with red pen in hand. Before they haul you off to Gitmo, though, allow me to share with you some of the corrections I made to your writing. I have sent you the document with track changes. Please, remember that parenthetical statements go inside the punctuation. Of course, I left out some of the most glaring errors so that my mates and I can have something to laugh at.

Av, it's no surprise that you're late and underwhelming. You probably would have had more impressive turn submissions 15 years ago, too. Of course, if you'd lay off the reefer for a few days, I think you'd be surprised at what you could accomplish.

Peter, don't feel bad; for the longest time, I thought you went by "Penis."

Thanks, all. I award you all 5000 internets as a token of my love and esteem (yes, even you, Null ;)). Here's to another 10... when we'll still be typing things out on this outdated php board when everywhere else is connecting to the net at the speed of thought with direct neural interfaces.
Was talking to a friend about this tonight and had to perform a bit of thread necromancy for old time's sake. Good times

That was a low-blow cheap shot-- not my best work. Looks like the big 45 is coming down the pike, eh?

I think it would be fun to find the oldest, really good threads and resurrect.

Oh wowowow, that WOULD be amazing. I'm game!

But then, I WOULD say that!
I thought "I resemble that remark" when Ananda wittily pointed out:
ussusimiel, it frightens me that you have your finger on the pulse of a thread last commented on in 2003.
That thought has stuck with me ever since.

Well, time to go find ONE old thread I love.
(tho maybe I'm not going for OLDEST, deer--just goodest.)
