Meshuggah

I've never been into death metal. The "cookie monster" vocals have always put me off. But then someone introduced me to Meshuggah. And the music was just too brilliant for me to ignore. Complex grooves, crushing riffs, incredible drumming. So I made the effort to acquire the taste for the vocals. What swung it for was reading the lyrics along with the music. This transformed it from unintelligible noise to being able to see how the vocalist worked his lyrics into the groove, the breakdown of syllables and emphasis, etc. It's really great musicianship on his part, and adds a lot to the songs.

I bought the album Nothing recently, and I love it completely. Blew my mind the way I first listened to Tool and the Mars Volta, which is a huge call for me.

Perhaps my liking of BM actually stems from a long childhood devotion to the Muppets! :P :P

Have you tried any Viking metal? Several bands actually use quite complex melodies (Moonsorrow's long progressive pieces belonging to some of my favorites) even if the vocals might sound like a crow choir.

Listened to the video but unfortunately to my ears it felt a bit too 'average'.

I seen Meshuggah live back in the late 80s.

Viking metal never been my favorite, except Bathory's Hammerheart maybe.

Type O Negative is all one needs if it comes to anything "metal".
