Hast Du etwas Zeit für mich
Dann singe ich ein Lied fuer Dich
Von 99 Luftballons
Auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont
Denkst Du vielleicht grad' an mich
Dann singe ich ein Lied fuer Dich
Von 99 Luftballons
Und dass sowas von sowas kommt

99 Luftballons
Auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont
Hielt man fuer UFOs aus dem All
Darum schickte ein General
Eine Fliegerstaffel hinterher
Alarm zu geben, wenn es so war
Dabei war da am Horizont
Nur 99 Luftballons

99 Duesenjaeger
Jeder war ein grosser Krieger
Hielten sich fuer Captain Kirk
Das gab ein grosses Feuerwerk
Die Nachbarn haben nichts gerafft
Und fuehlten sich gleich angemacht
Dabei schoss man am Horizont
Auf 99 Luftballons

99 Kriegsminister
Streichholz und Benzinkanister
Hielten sich fuer schlaue Leute
Witterten schon fette Beute
Riefen: Krieg und wollten Macht
Mann, wer haette das gedacht
Dass es einmal soweit kommt
Wegen 99 Luftballons

99 Jahre Krieg
Liessen keinen Platz fuer Sieger
Kriegsminister gibt es nicht mehr
Und auch keine Duesenflieger
Heute zieh ich meine Runden
Seh die Welt in Truemmern liegen
Hab' nen Luftballon gefunden
Denk' an Dich und lass' ihn fliegen

You and I in a little toy shop
Buy a bag of balloons with the money we've got.
Set them free at the break of dawn
'Til one by one, they were gone.
Back at base, bugs in the software
Flash the message, Something's out there.
Floating in the summer sky.
99 red balloons go by.

99 red balloons.
floating in the summer sky.
Panic bells, it's red alert.
There's something here from somewhere else.
The war machine springs to life.
Opens up one eager eye.
Focusing it on the sky.
Where 99 red balloons go by.

99 Decision Street.
99 ministers meet.
To worry, worry, super-scurry.
Call the troops out in a hurry.
This is what we've waited for.
This is it boys, this is war.
The president is on the line
As 99 red balloons go by.

99 Knights of the air
Ride super-high-tech jet fighters
Everyone's a superhero.
Everyone's a Captain Kirk.
With orders to identify.
To clarify and classify.
Scramble in the summer sky.
As 99 red balloons go by.

99 dreams I have had.
In every one a red balloon.
It's all over and I'm standing pretty.
In this dust that was a city.
If I could find a souvenier.
Just to prove the world was here.
And here is a red balloon

I think of you and let it go.

That brings back the memories. I still see that girl with hairy armpits and red leather miniskirt running around on stage at the hitparade on TV for the first time. A bit like imagening Wendy O Williams and Lemmy singing "Stand By Your Man" at the Grand Ol Opry.

I bet I could say neunundneunzig things.
Neununddachtzig of them would be boring, though.
The other zehn would be about her hair...and hair is always fascinating.

Peter Schilling.

I was 12 in back '82 and already totally addicted to Metal and Punk. I never cared about the "Neue Deutsche Welle". I never really liked music with German lyrics (and I still don't) - but Nena was something a boy my age would fantasize about.

I fell in love with this album once upon a time. And there was an exchange student that lived next door that I was also very much in love with who sounded very similar.

I carried a torch for her for a very long time, and she'd occasionally pop into my dreams and mess me up for another day. Her "host sister" as they call them I barely spoke with, but I ran across her a few months before my first wedding, and I spoke with her about my infatuation with Teresa. She said she could give me her address as she still speaks with her. I told her no because I realized she'll always be the fantasy, and that I have kinda enjoyed having her on a pedestal all these years. She then ignored that and told me that she got addicted to cocaine and was having troubles and such, and I said ssshh....I didn't want to hear the reality.
I never told Teresa how I felt because I was shy and nerdy looking, but I did ask her out one day and she accepted, but then later declined. It may have been my choice of movie I asked her to (Red Dawn). I never got the nerve up to ask her out again. In hindsight, I think she might have been interested but I goofed it up with my nerdiness (one long night we spent with another of her friends I even discussed Covenant). But I had rehearsed over and over again what I would say to her, and planned to tell her before she left for Spain again, but I missed my chance as I had no idea when she was going back. I still remember it.
"There are so many things I want to say to you, but time's caught me up and now I'll never say them, except that I loved you from the moment I saw you and every moment since. You are like a May morning."
I got her address shortly after she left, and wrote a letter or two out, but never mailed them. None were ever good enough to express what was boiling in my teenaged heart.
The next year I got rid of my birth control glasses and started dressing differently, and started getting the attention of women, and kicked myself for my missteps. I know that if we did start up a relationship, she wouldn't have been as special.
I still get the big heart palpatations whenever some lady looks similar, so I know that torch still has embers, and probably always will.

cags - no way she could live up to all of that. :)

but i wouldn't beat myself up too badly in your shoes. we were all younger back then and few of us saw beneath the surface.

i was so terribly shy then and can only imagine everything i missed. i couldn't even talk to girls.
