Got back last night from an awesome vacation to Acadia National Park on Mount Desert, Maine. Here's a couple hundred pictures:

We stayed at a B&B, The Atlantean Cottage Inn, where we were treated very well. :D It helped that we were there before the season started. We were actually the only ones there two of our five nights. Breakfasts were fantastic! Baked, stuffed French toast; pineapple upsidedown French toast; apple clafouti... And always some fruit with a delicious maple, or coconut, or some other sauce. I'm gonna miss that place!!

The park was amazing. The views, as you can see, are breathtaking. And you might recognize this cliff from Shutter Island.

We did a lot of hiking. Here's a particularly interesting trail:

1,200 granite steps. Built in something like 1893, and restored in the 1930's.

Acadia National Park is widely known for it's wild flora and fauna..It's picturesque sights and nature's divine beauty made it more special.

Is this spam Irish-style?

We'd probably call it spaim (or luncheon-sausage):

Apologies to Philip Butler if you're a genuine member. Butler is a great Irish name with deep roots in Irish history e.g. the Butlers of Ormond.

I'll have you know, sir, that my ancestors were good buddies with those Butlers, having both come over with Strongbow and all. ;)

Then that would make you more Irish than the Irish themselves

Unlike the English landlord family who left their big house after being in Kilkenny for over 300 years. As one old woman was heard to say, 'I knew they'd never stay!'

Indeed, that's what was said about us!

I think (extrapolating from some genealogical research I found on teh intarwebz and gut feeling ) our family manse was called Cloughscregg, and yeah, it was in Co. Kilkenny. I gather there's nothing left there now. One of my forebears shot off his mouth about Cromwell, and he repaid the family by relocating them to Connaught. Still, I'd like to see the area someday.

If it's near Graiguenamanagh (as my own Internet search shows  ) then I've been in that area and it's a beautiful location. Hope you get to see it sometime.

How cool is that! If I ever get over there, I may have to hire you as my guide. ;)

Actually, Ireland is the last destination on my bucket list for travel (after Alaska, that is, which I will be taking care of in just a couple of weeks). So I will get there one of these days. :)
