The Gratitude Thread

Post by deer of the dawn »

I am so thankful to have been able to spend a month in America. My stepfather's passing was one of great peace, he was a good guy who had a long life and was ready to be released from pain, and had made his peace with God, so there was none of that empty grief that comes with really tragic loss (not to say that cancer and death ever do not suck). I have been able to help my Mom sort and sift through Larry's financial records and memorabilia, clothing, computers and other stuff (we always called him the Gadget King).

I had no money for this trip but oh my gosh have people blessed me with their generosity.

Most of all, I was incredibly exhausted, burned out physically and mentally, and this gave me the chance to rest and sort through many issues.

Since I am a believer, my gratitude and thanks are to God, who reminded me that he is quite capable of taking care of me in ways that go beyond what I even know that I need.

I am thankful for water lilies and wood thrushes and the sound of the wind in maple trees, and ice cream, and clean air and good roads and electricity. And I'm thankful that I feel strong enough to go back and do Nigeria for another year.

And so much else besides...

What are you people thankful for?

Nobody's replied yet? Buncha ingrates... :x

Today, I am grateful that it's a beautiful day outside, it's payday, and I get to have pizza with both of my daughters tonight. And I'm grateful, as always, for the Watch. 8)

Grateful for everything really. Fantastic parents, husband, kids. Son only beaten up and hospitalised for one night once. Particularly grateful that I've already got 3 new CDs and 2 new books ready for publication in August which will give me spare time for a few weeks :D :D

Oh, I'm sure you would all be very bored. It's one of my voluntary jobs. I get the raw material and pretty it up, convert to PDF, bookmark then send the files off to my CD supplier. These were MIs (Monumental Inscriptions from about 30 churchyards/cemeteries), Marriages for part of Lincolnshire 1700-1837 and some baptisms and burials for 1754-1812. The books were extracts from Workhouse minutes (1800s). All research aids for family historians. I have five boxes of CDs arriving on Monday. The books I take to be photocopied, bring them home then bind them. We sell them on bookstalls, over the internet and by post. We sell about £12,000 worth of publications a year. I do all the sales/stock figures too. Now, wasn't that interesting

I am grateful for The All granting me and those around me the grace and courage to make good decisions (and live with them, thorn along with rose) even when they are unconventional and risky.

I am grateful for the many new friends that I have made in my time here on the Watch, especially (but by no means limited to) those whom I actually met for a few days a year ago in Albuequerque.

I am grateful for yesterday, for today, and for tomorrow.

In Nigeria, the standard response to "How is work?" is "Mun godi Allah", We thank God. After all, you have a job and are able to work. That is a rather big something to be thankful for.

I am thankful that I'm going home to Nigeria on Wednesday.

Today the sun came out and I am grateful to be warm again. I've spent the last two nights in a thick winter cardigan with a thick body warmer over the top and a blanket over my legs!

...and a chance to rest, Sarge?

I am so thankful for so many things, from the smell of honeysuckles to Pete Townshend's guitar playing.

I'm thankful that my cousin is alive. He had a heart attack / stroke combo yesterday at the tender age of 44. Any prayers anyone can muster are appreciated: for Edward.

The catholic church is the largest pro-pedophillia group in the world, and every member of it is guilty of supporting the rape of children, the ensuing protection of the rapists, and the continuing suffering of the victims.

Here's to you cousin Ron, and great that you are up and about sarge. What I'm grateful for may sound, comparatively, mundane, but I'm grateful for the Watch. You wouldn't believe how nice it is to come to this island of calm (the Tank excluded :P ) after dealing with my cause and the political BS that comes with it, after all the facebooking, emailing, meetings, networking, rallies etc...that goes with it. After Monday I can finally take a rest from it after close to a year straight...it keeps me busy and, relatively out of trouble  and helped me actually socialize with my fellow humans and lose 66 pounds, yes politics and the madness needs to be controlled and we need to learn to structure things for the betterment of all humanity, but it's BS, in it's present form: totally BS... 8)

What is your cause, Danlo?

I am grateful for every good thing and every bad thing in my life. Om mani padme hum, as they say.
