I don't know if it's him. ;) I got a critical error earlier today. Not the same thing sarge got, though.

I'm getting this just about every time I post, lately:
Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@kevinswatch.ihugny.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I fear that the more we post, the more we may get it. (I've also been getting him a lot.)

One day Vain is going to have to bite the bullet and try migrate the database.

And if it doesn't work, we will have to choose between bugs and not having all our past posts or something.

Anyway, I mailed Vain. :D Maybe it'll get him to show up. :D

That would be a nice thing.

I miss having Vain around.

I realized there's also there's quirky thing going on with search:

When you search all posts of longtime users with a lot of posts, you only get posts up to 2011, even though they've posted more recently.

I suspect it's because, as you say, the board is getting big and the older forum software may not be handling the number of posts well.

(We wouldn't have to migrate all of Mallory's, for example, right? ;))

I personally would be fine with leaving it behind. :D

Oh, yeah, haiku is creative. :D

I know I said I was going to bed now, but just thought of this:
Another forum I frequent, the mods routinely prune the games forum that they have - similar to Mallory's - to keep it down to size.

Just a thought. :P

I also received a few, with the Error 500 flavor.

As for the Mallory's - there are at least a few more threads that involved thought and creativeness, like the bad writing and illustrating contests, they contain good parodies people thought out, I think they shouldn't be lost.

If it comes down to picking what to migrate, I would suggest the SRD forums would be paramount -- since that's supposedly the purpose of the site ;) -- and then going down the list from there.

We've migrated the board before (cough*EZBoard*cough) and it didn't kill us....

I've noticed that search has inconsistent results as well. There seems to be an implicit limitation to returns of around 7500. However those returns seem to be fairly random in terms of their sequence. If you're trying to find a user's latest post or searching the posts of an older member (some of whom have 30K+ posts) this can be problematic.

Lots of older members when I search only show posts up to 2008. It's been that way for a few years now.

For those of you that condescend to visit Mallorys these days, it is actually not visited that regularly - not as frequently as the old days (ie. before my time). I don't think there'd be a problem ditching the entire Mallorys forum apart from some of the gold (bad writing, bad illustrating, and other creative ones).

Perhaps GT should be looked at - it's no different from the creative parts of Mallorys. You anti-Mallorys types are out of touch. Mallorys is not a high volume place like the "old" days.

I don't see a problem wiping Mallorys and starting over. It could even inject some life into it. On the other hand, I think having to ditch and restart the whole board to move to phpBB3 would kill the Watch.

You could wipe the Tank, too- it has 41 pages of opinions on the internets. And most of General. And the science and the close thingies, too.

Yeah, I suspect even the regular Tankards ;) wouldn't be too fussed to start with a clean slate. The discussions are usually dependent on the news of the day -- and for the perennials (like abortion), we start a new thread from time to time anyhow.
