Anyone else listening to this newcomer? Hypnotic, self proclaimed "gangsta Nancy Sinatra"...awesome stuff...

i saw a clip of her on some show or other, might've been SNL...honestly i thought she was not very good in the clip i saw so i haven't paid any more
attention to her. could've just been an off night for her.
but then i don't really care for florence (and the machine) live either.
(i know, blasphemy)

I think the clip is her first real live performance...her stuff is much better than that one performance.

the video's mediocre but the music grows and grows on you (Dark Paradise and Born To Die are awesome tracks off her album)...

Yeah, that bad performance is pretty notorious. Haven't really listened to her stuff... I've heard she's a very manufactured act.

Is she any relation to Lester and Judy-Lynn?

Yeah, I have to agree that she's not all that good. And I'm not watching, I'm just listening; watching that one song was like self-inflicting a coma.

Yeah I tried just listening as well. She didn't work for me either way.

As a metal head, I find my addiction to her music rather unnerving. Perhaps she's got some great backmasking going on that speaks to me. :D

and for the record, i'm not saying that i think you SHOULDN'T like her, rdh, i'm just saying i didn't care for the stuff i heard. there is no accounting for taste.
and i do not mean that in any kind of a derogatory way at all. i mean it literally.
people respond to whatever they respond to and you'll get no judgement from me on that.

i really thought there were a lot of people on the forum who would love chris whitley and respond to his music the way i did. sadly, i was wrong. it's all good tho.

Heh, if you want to laugh at the female singers I'm into right now, here's my list:

Natalie Imbruglia
Melissa Auf Der Maur
Mia Zapata (The Gits)
Esperanza Spalding
Amy Lavere
Kate Voegele

I take none of this personally, trust me...my tastes are rather eclectic, from heavy metal to this to pop...a coworker turned me on to her and the mood struck me :D

I like her stuff. She is incredibly manufactured, so I don't admire her. But I enjoy her songs. That SNL performance was horrific, but definitely an off-night for her.

I can't really watch many of her videos. She has permanent duck face. :/

I was going to ask if she published the early Covenant books, but it seems Menolly beat me to the punch.

Lana del Rey's album Born to Die is one of the very few releases where I love every track. Live she seems to suck, but in your front room with a bottle of wine and just the CD playing her music takes some beating.
