What makes SRD so special?

He created Lord Foul, Lord Mhoram, Covenant and Covenant Jr., Cail, Aliantha, Wayfriend, Vain, and many other KW users! He also created the site Kevin's Watch!

He writes in such a way that makes me really care about his characters - even Linden 
Somehow they are more than just people in a book. Not so sure about Angus though

Only writer in the world I've found who can make a character say "ouch" throughout fifty pages, and I mean not the slightest hint of irony here as for this being the reason I hold TCTC as the fantasy series of my lifetime.

Who else, besides a select few, has written different styles of series novels?
Fantasy (TCoTC), Sci-Fi (The Gap), and Mystery (The Man Who...).
And on Best Seller lists?

I'd say he is a guy who has the ending in mind, and everything else builds up to that. Which seems rare in the world of writing. Most authors I have read start off well, build well, and then it just ends. Or it just rambles on until it stops.

I think it's because he build characters you can relate to, put them in situations too fantastic for them to deal with, deals with emotions in a real way, and ultimately shows the resilience of the human spirit.

It's amazing what SRD can do in 500 pages, vs 1400 pages of rambling and ponderous crap about troop movements and camping in the woods. The Quest for the Staff of Law just went from Morinmoss to the Plains of Ra and Mount thunder in like 2 chapters, yet none of it was rushed?
If this was Wheel of Time that would be 4 books.
Plus all the things other people said in this thread, I really do care about the characters, and I don't fault them at all (Hi2uLinden) when they do something that is a mix of utter idiocy on the character's end, and cheap plot contrivance on the writer's end, because even that he does so well, and you are so invested up to that point already...
All that being said, would anyone agree with me that he has a very unfortunate and pretty terrible taste in names? I mean, this just proves that even the Creator, Foul, and SRD have blind spots and failings.
If this was Wheel of Time that would be 4 books.
