...and the second image has been received.
Seriously, though.
The first image is courtesy of NASA's
Curiosity.
The second courtesy of George Tekai on Facebook.

Me too. Thought this landing was doomed for sure.

An astounding feat of engineering. Truly breathtaking in its complexity and daring.

Great, just GREAT! A real and cool accomplishment, and because y'all got me in the wrong mood, when I finally saw actual pictures, one was of its shadow and all I could do was think
CRAP, now Mars is gonna have six more weeks of winter.

I'm very happy. Can you imagine if it crashed? That would have been the end of a lot of exploration funding I bet.
Hope we get some good results!

I've been seeing alot of griping about this mission, things like "is it necessary?" and "is it worth the money?" and "why didn't we send people this time?"
I'll admit, the thought "another rover on Mars?" went through my mind.
I'm ready for a landing on Europa.

People have been griping about NASA funding ever since we landed on the moon. I'd rather see us spend money on space exploration than on another weapons system.

Have we had a rover on Mars before?

Uh, this is the 4th successful one IIRC.
The first successful one was Sojourner, in '97.

This is by far the largest and most sophisticated, though. And it cost less than the London Olympics.

I don't know what people believe. I hope we will, someday.
