Were the CGI characters in Episode I & II believable?

The first time I watched Menace, I was worried that characters like Watto and Yoda might seem too fake to be genuinely interesting and believeable. All in all though I think Lucas and company did a pretty neat job of rendering an all new Yoda. Its not perfect I grant you, but given the state of the art, its pretty good. Watching Yoda fight Dookoo was perhaps the biggest payoff.

If you say so. I really had a hard time believing Yoda could move like that. But it sure must have been a blast to create that scene. Personally, I think CGI would have been best used to endow Padme more like her daughter Leia.

wait a second... this belongs on the OTHER post...where we are comparing the jiggles and bounces of the actresses playing relations to Luke. Besides there are certian celebirty websites where you can see Miss Portman without a top on... not great but not bad either.

Hey, it's like my uncle Farley always says: "A bad day looking at breasts is better than a good day with the in-laws..."

This Uncle Farley sounds like quite a bloke.

Well, he's not actually my uncle. He's Megaton dAN's uncle.

You'll have to buy "Megaton Man Vs. The Uncategorizable X-Thems" to read about his exploits. But I doubt that you can meet him.

Don't fret about it. Due to continuity problems, George Lucas will be replacing all the Ewoks with computer generated Uncle Farleys in the 2007 DVD release of ROTJ.

Given the technology and the talents of animators, I imagine there will come a time when CGI will be unnoticable. I would love to see some of the spectacular events in these stories and not in the back of my mind be thinking "cg".

Uhh, were you saing something, Cromas? I'm so sorry. It seems that the state of computer technology has rendered your posts unnoticeable.

All in all during the course of each of the films I think most people are able to suspend their disbelief enough to forget Jar Jar and the battle droids are cgi. All in all I think Lucas did the best job anyone could have with the CGI characters.

The problem is that everyone compares the SW CGI characters to Gollum - which I think is a bit unfair. Anyone who has watched the extended version of Two Towers, especially the feature on the Making of Gollum, will realize that although Gollum is CGI, there is an actor underneath who is doing one hell of a job - Andy Serkis. The actor playing Jar-Jar didn't have much to work with from the beginning, and the fact that Jar-Jar has become one of the most hated characters ever hasn't helped.
The Yoda-Tyrannus fight scence was incredible, but it lasted all of what - 45 seconds? In this day and age, when LOTR and the Matrix are blowing everyone away with CGI battle scenes lasting several minutes, and the best that Lucas can give us is 45 seconds? And we're to believe that Tyrannus would give up after that short amount of time, or that the great Jedi Master would be exhausted after that short amount of time? Give me a break.
So I believe that the CGI characters in SW are actually pretty good, it's the sorry script and directing that make them look bad.

Actually, I was comparing them to Alf; which is why I like them so much.
