I must call upon all the powers of the watch...

I thought I would take a break from being a lurker today to challenge the creative and deductive powers of the watch members. I have received a short message from a female acquaintance with a majority of the letters missing.
## ##### ## #### #### you.
"#" denotes the missing letters. In anticipation of your first query, no it is not like hang man. I do not know if any of the letters in the last word are repeated elsewhere. I believe that this message is important. Solving it could mean free cake or brownies. I have no real reason to believe that tasty treats will be had upon the solving of said message, but if there is I will gladly share with any watch member that is willing to visit my domicile.

It's not possible. Well, not possible to know which is the correct message.
We can all just guess at 2, 4 and 5 letter words for you if you like.

So, are you allowed to make multiple guesses, (and if so, how many?) or are you expected to work the answer out before replying with what you believe the answer to be?
This could get interesting, either way!

I received no further information from the female. She also will not assist in the solving of the puzzle. She is being difficult.

Possibly some variation of "to mess with you" (assuming you'll waste time and effort trying to work it out)?

Why, it's elementary.
It is from a female Watch member, therefore, we know they want WGDs. Since your WGD stash is paltry, it must mean they want my WGDs. Therefore, it must be sent from Menolly, who's a contestant in Win Wayfriend's Money. And it must therefore say, "IM NEEDY SO VOTE SOON YOU".
Like I said: elementary.

"I'm going to mess with you." Of course mess could be another 4-letter word in a similar vein.

Show me where Sheol said the female who sent it to him was a member of the Watch...
Trust me. I may blatantly ask for WGDs in-thread, but try not to resort to PMs to request them. And request for votes, whether for the Watchies or WWM is done publicly as well, unless I'm in chat with someone.

It almost could be "I'm totally in Love With You"
Anyone got a good 5 letter word to replace totally with?

That's sort of where I was going, but I couldn't get even that many words.
Try replacing "totally" with "truly?"

How about SONOT?

There you go Sheol, it's a woman who's tired of waiting for you to make the first move, telling you "I'm Truly in Love With you" (Unless it's not

Hah yes, that's the problem - do you make the guess and potentially embarrass yourself by getting it completely wrong, or do you take the plunge?

Aside from that, yeah I think there's a fair chance of it being "I'm going to mess with you" - although you might want to check to see if apostrophes don't count towards the #s

What do cake or brownies have to do with it?

Well, is it possible she's in love with you? And if so, are you interested? If so, take the plunge, something like...
"Well, Ive been thinking about asking you out lately, so, I'll just assume it's
I'm Truly In Love With You and I'll tell you I'd like to take you out to dinner and dancing <Insert ear to ear grin or drooling face>
*If you're real nervous, you could always set up the delivery in a manner where you can pull the rug out
if it goes wrong with "...I Had you going, didn't I? My real guess was
I'm gonna mess with you, and I figured I'd get there before you" <Insert Impish Grin>
*Of course you would never resort to this, unless you had already been made a fool of or you could shatter all hope

## ##### ## #### #### you.
Short sentence with short words.
Two out of three of those first three words are probably subject and verb.
Hmmm... how does the word "you" receive the action...?
We're gonna want at least 1 preposition too.
So "to" or "of" for the second 2-letter word.
Or that two-letter word could be the verb "be."
Or the next-to-last word could be "with"
Two-letter words... deer's possibility has "I'm" which would cover subject and verb in the first words.
Also, "We" is another major possibility for the start of the sentence.
There are many options, but.. seriously, we could probably hammer out a few possibilities.
Of course, context is probably also relevant. Typical movie quotes in friendship groups you share, etc.
If you're on a college, you've got your own subculture... hmmm...
Where's Hashi when you need 'im?
(bet he doesn't read Gen Disc much.)
And I seem to remember Effy creating a code-breaking game in another sub-forum awhile back...

Which is stuck for some horrible amount of time...

Likely in the Tank, theoretically, he'd likely be there if not needed anyway, but I think that's not verifiable
"I'm going to mess with you" and "I'm truly in Love With You" really sound most probable, at least if the apostrophes don't count, but the amount of variants and the vagueness of this allow for much, particularly if that's a quote and not necessarily directed to the person receiving the message.
Good thoughts, Linna, however, there are quite a few other possibilities, it could be "be" as the second 2- letter word - or even not a preposition, like in "I'm dazed by dear kind you" (a lot of other verbs could go instead of dazed here - loved, cared [of] etc. - the same for the 4-letter words - cold, soft, nice etc.) and "An anvil ox will find you" (fine, this one is silly, well, just for a sample of how it could be not a preposition) As a few more 2-letter words, "So rigor of mind ties you".
If that's not one of the "I'm going to mess with you" and "I'm truly in Love With You", it's going to be very unlikely to guess correctly without any hints.

The answer turned out to be "I'm still in love with you." Hooray for me being clueless.
