Did anyone else see this HBO mini series? It started a week ago Sunday and ended last night. I found it brilliant and extraordinary. Just wondered if anyone else saw it and what you thought about it.

It's based on Tony Kushner's two part play "Angels in America: Millennium Aproaches" and "Angels in America: Perestroika" Which my brother and I read in the middle '90's. It's a fascinating story about the Reagan years, the early days of AIDS and the politics surrounding it, sexual preference, and thrown into this mix, an angel. She appears before one of the main characters, an AIDS stricken homosexual who's lover leaves him, and tells him he's a prophet and that God has abandonded them because humanity has "moved too far." An angry angel. It will make you laugh hysterically, it will make you cry, it will make you rage, it will shock you for it's irreverance. But it is fantastic! HBO will be repeating it over the next few weeks. For everyone who has access to HBO, I highly recommend watching this.

If you look at the cast, the actor who plays the prophet, Prior Walter, looks so much like my brother Stephen it's spooky.

I haven't watched it yet, but I plan to if it's re-aired. Since some big names who rarely if ever do television, like Al Pacino and Meryl Streep, are attached to it, I figure it must be a first-class production. Your review seems to confirm that, Furls.

It won't disappoint Roland. They aired "chapter 5" last night, which is the fifth hour in the series. I think I saw on the schedule that HBO signiture was going to air all six hours back to back the weekend of Jan. 3. It follows Kushner's plays almost to the letter. It's a great production and Al Pacino and Meryl Streep will most assuredly get emmys for their performances...awesome!!!!

It's up for several Golden Globes...
Best mini series or television movie
Best actor: Al Pacino
Best actress: Meryl Streep
Best supporting actor: Ben Shenkman, Patrick Wilson, and Jeffery Wright
Best supporting actress: Mary Louise Parker
I'm a little upset that Justin Kirk, the actor who played Prior Walter didn't get a nomination as well. I thought he was brilliant.
I hope it wins big

You are right! This was amazing! I only saw the last 3 hours, but what I saw was brilliant. I find myself identifying with Prior. The abandonment he felt, the lonliness.
I hope to see the first 3 hours the next time they air it. Thank you for bringing it to my attention, sweetheart. You are the best.

OH, I knew you would love it, Shadow! It really was amazing

Like I said, Steve and I both read the plays years ago. They really did an excellent job adapting them.

Congrats to Meryl Streep and Al Pacino, both took the Screen Actor's Guild awards for best actress and actor in a TV movie or mini series for their work in Angels in America.

I was very happy

OH cool!!!

I hadn't had a chance to look yet! I had recorded it on my DVR and was going to put it on video tape if anyone wanted it.

But, if you get the official release it will probably have cool extras and stuff. I may go ahead and get it too.
