To prevent there only being one nominee in a category? Also, if you think both people are worthy, your single vote isn't necessarily pre-determined. Finally, because it gives other people the chance to vote for them if they think they're worthy.

I think next year we should maybe just have a single category for Parody. Maybe collapse some others, too, like Poetry. I think getting too specialised devalues the award when you wind up with only one nomination.

I think next year the promotion in all the subforums should be restarted. And perhaps the WOTY award should be collapsed with something, two nominations only

Also I've spent quite some time looking for what to nominate - people likely don't have time to look everywhere. When I looked, I practically stumbled on loads of things to nominate, perhps I can suggest a few - maybe someone will nominate. Though I should have thought of this earlier, almost no time left.

Once something's been seconded, I'd say no take-backs. Why not nominate it in both categories, though?

Av, the thing is, there are already nominations that receive no votes. Especially with the count being public, i'd like to avoid that. It also makes it easier on the mods.

Helsviti, late again. Have had no time for forum perusings, but I'll make a few last-minute seconds, for what it's worth.

So... perhaps we can extend the deadline? Looks like this might bring more activity and it appears not too good to me that some people weren't able to take part much due to the time concerns. Moreover since it's not like we have the next year with the new Watchies almost on our heads, like the previous time.

Alas, don't wait for me, though. I'll be on-off from the country for the rest of the month, and probably have contributed my meager share. Sorry.

Keep in mind the nomination period has been open a full, albeit short, month. But I will defer to the sheriff's decision.

It has come to my attention that I have transgressed the rule stating that we are only permitted one nomination or second per category. In the Best Moderator thread, I have seconded deer of the dawn (for the Hall of Gifts) and later nominated Menolly for her portfolio of fora (Summonsing, Galley, JK Rowling, Watchies).

Not wanting to deprive either of these mods of their fully-endorsed nomination, I ask that *someone* who has not already spoken in the Best Mod thread assist by backfilling one of these nominations/seconds. Once this is done, I will edit out whichever post has been supplanted.

The most straightforward would be to second deer's nomination. Since Frostheart has seconded Menolly's nomination, I believe that my withdrawing my nomination would allow Frosty's second to become a nomination which someone else could then second...but since I am not the mod here, that opinion could be wrong.

Since the nomination period could close at any time now...please act on this soon if you are moved to do so. Thank you.

Since you are pretty much a GT purist, my assumption is you mean Best GT Character? murrin nominated the character in that category; he was not the player of Ristra.

After consulting with the sheriff, it is decided that SD's second of deer and Frosty's second of me for Mod of the Year will stand. So, who nominated me, even though it is not in thread? The sheriff has taken that.

Just seems strange to me that I must go into a thread and have to choose between nominating somebody, and being able to second somebody already nominated.

Does anyone have a link to the original posting of shadowbinding shoe's "Molady Fair" nominated in the Best Parody: Artwork category? I need to verify the date of the original post before conditionally accepting the nomination.

So are we gonna get some kind of official ruling on the late nominations? People are running rampant days after deadline and nothing's been said on if they're accepted.

I'm leaving that up to the sheriff; I'm pretty much only the grunt work laborer here. As Av said, it's his game. Soon as he gives a ruling, the threads will be edited to reflect that.

You are far too quick to denigrate your role. With all due respect to [Syl], you have been a mod in this forum since the 2009 Watchies. There is no reason to treat yourself as if you are markedly junior or less capable.

While he makes the preponderance of the decisions (largely because you defer to him), you have done the lion's share of the actual doing. Stop hiding your Light under a basket; take pride in what you have accomplished.
