I think that the Elohim still secretly hope that Linden will cede them her (Foul's?) ring, seeing in her thus their only hope for salvation. But now what if Covenant makes the daring move of offering his newly-borne wedding band to them? That would be a pretty extreme plot twist, arguably.

EDIT: The point would ultimately be to show Infelice that she has no better solution to the crisis at hand than anyone else.
