I'm fast getting near to his reign in my Roman historyathon. I read 'Meditations' when I was really young, kinda around the same time I read the first Covenant books actually, and I don't want my world to be shattered if I find out his rule did not live up to his ideals.

So if Marcus Aurelius did anything really really terrible (not leaders make tough choices terrible) please break it to me gently so I have time to grieve and find a new love.

Was his influence so long reaching that it effects them even now?

He was not kind to his son if the beginning of 'Gladiator' is to be believed.

(I was always rather sorry for Jochaim Phoenix's charachter at this point in the film when he said plaintively to Marcus Auraleus "All I ever wanted was to make you proud of me" (Marcus Auraleus having told him he would never hand over the 'Purple' to him but would favor one of his generals instead).
