I seldom listen to the radio any more and CD's are two cumbersome for me to keep track of.
I have hundreds of songs on a USB stick that I plug into my car's audio system.
it's fantastic.
Is there anything like that I can buy for the home?

Not an iPhone, I see plenty of those and that's the concept I'm looking for.
I don't have an iPhone or Droid.

I just want a usb player and speaker combo thingy.

Does it exist?
What is the term I should be looking for it?

I have one of those gadgets that can play content from a USB stick through its speakers and screen. I call it a laptop, and it has some additional capabilities as well.

yeah, but laptops don't fit on nightstands too well. :P
that's probably more what i'm looking for: a small clock radio that plays mp3s off a usb stick, that would give me an alarm and a snooze button.

I recently bought a small desktop stereo system for one of the kids, and it had a usb port on it. They seem rather standard now. So maybe grep around for "desktop stereo system".

Any USB powered speakers I've heard are crap (and they pick up cell phone beeps). As far as speakers, AC powered or battery powered is far better. There are all kinds of nightstand-sized things you can get, and you just pop in your mp3 player.

Something like this.

Of course, I have a$10 battery operated thing, because I'm poor, but if I had the money (and if there were electricity in Nigeria) I would have the above.

I don't think HLT wants to power the speakers with a usb cable, deer. I think it can be plugged in with an alarm clock and snooze button, but he wants to store his mp3s on a jump drive and play them off of that, and not a full mp3 player.

Just in case Av's solution is no longer being made... I wonder if it would be possible to buy (or cobble together from parts) a patch cable with a USB connector on one end and a 30-pin iPhone connector on the other? Seems to me that I ordered a custom-made cable from someplace online when I got the new TV, and it wasn't that expensive.

Haha, I never noticed the date.

I did find a local one, a portable multimedia speaker but dunno if they'll ship outside the country.

(Also no idea how good it is...)

(I was looking for one myself.)
