Calling all art lovers.

Hi Guys. I have this idea for tryng to set up a thread where people can post a link (or indeed the actual image) to a particular painting or sculpture that does it for them, with a few background details as to what makes it special to them (as a work rather than personally) and where, when and who by the piece was executed. This thread would serve as an 'exhibition hall' rather than a discussion site (although of course discussion would not be discouraged should it occur) and would allow users to acess works that might otherwise pass them by or indeed refresh their aquaintance with previousely encountered and loved works.

I have conducted a (not too exhaustive I have to admit) search and have not unearthed anything that equates to this; also the 'hall of gifts' seems more geared for people presenting their own works rather than the type of thing I am thinking. There does not seem to be a site in the 'Hegemony' that fits the bill fir such a thread, nor indeed do the painter and sculptors art seem to feature large anywhere else on the Watch. I am sure there are many errudite and informed 'watchers' out there who would contribute their 'gift' to the thread and to view their various submissions over a period of time would give me (at least) great pleasure as well as becoming a valued scource of education in a feild I love dearly (Each submission would potentially serve as the point of introduction to a new artist not previousely encountered - and from small acorns etc....). Finally the establishment os such a site would redress an imbalance where every branch of human endevour seems to be represented in the various forums available, exept this one.

I am not a computer wizard and my limits would be reached in the simple act of starting a thread (say " Post Me a Painting" or somesuch) within an existing forum, though as I say, which one it would be is not at all clear. It could be that the idea might have more 'legs' than this however, in which case it would require input and organisation beyond that of my limited technical abilities. Any comments or suggestions of where the thread should be sited guys and how it should be presented - or indeed if it merits further evaluation as a potential new area for the Hegmony (or where-ever) would be appreciated.

(I have of course got my first two submissions 'linked and ready' - two beauties and am busting to get them out there! ;) )

I probably wouldn't be a frequent contributor, but it sounds like a decent idea to me. No reason it couldn't have its own subforum in Waymeet.

I'm not against it per se, but new forums tend to fade away it seems.

All in favour?

Thanks guys for the tacit support - Sarge in particular I knew could be relied on in this field. Point taken re the 'new forum' comment Av - I've got no particular axe to grind on that score other than I'm not sure where to post the thread in the existing ones. Perhaps just within the 'general discussion' heading would be ok exept that I was hoping for lots of interesting and individual offerings rather than focused discussion on particular works (though as I said above, this would not be discouraged).

In choosing my two (current) submissions I found it nearly impossible to select from all the works I love for one reason or another, and realised that I could certainly contribute a work a day for a year and still have scores left to choose from! For this reason alone I would beg the indulgence of the court ;) and ask that the normal rule of avoiding 'double postings' could be relaxed a trifle in this case. If it becomes apparant that I'm standing in a crowd of one then of course I'll abandon the effort and the moribund thread will go the same way as all other *in extremis* examples but I have hopes, I have hopes!

It's not a rule so much as a guideline. ;)

In the absence of a more obvious place I'll go with the 'general discussion' forum and hope the thread does not turn out to be 'a wilderness and a place of solitude' .
