The World's End

I just got back from seeing this, the latest from the creators of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

I have to say, I enjoyed this film a lot. It was very fun, and somehow very different from other films I've seen. They made the bodysnatchers thing kinda original. The action was very well done, as was the whole emotional drama side of the film.

I thought this was one of the best film's I've seen this year... until the climax.

When the film reaches the climactic scene, the very fast paced action suddenly just grinds to a halt. The final confrontation is a little dull and cliched, and the denouement I didn't think was very satisfying.

It's a shame, because it did so well for 90% of the film.

I'm looking forward to this. I loved the other two in the "trilogy."

I really loved the emotional aspect of the movie; in fact, I remarked to my date that I'd love to see that movie, without the alien invasion nonsense (it didn't really work for me). Do you know of any like that?

Speaking of which ... I saw this (in the theatre) and it was good but I was a little put off (admittedly due to having the wrong expectations) by Simon Pegg's character. It was a bit serious and depressing half the time, and funny half the time, and I never quite settled into him. It got better for me after the "reveal", because the story moved away from the character a ways. Usually I am keen for the British sense of humour but there were a number of times where I said, "was that supposed to be funny, or serious?" in this one.
