Scene from TC

Ive been thinking this for awhile. its just a thought.
What if we got a group together from the watch, decided on a scene or scenes, or maybe a "trailer" for one of the original books, and got together, and did it?
I mean, aTOMiC has done some filming, and Im sure there are others here with different skills we could use. Camera Man Jenn was in on FBH. There is writing and editing talent and no shortage of TC experts.
We could form a group, and discuss which scenes we would want to consider, then narrow it down. Decide who is doing what, and when it gets done. then plan a gathering and get it done.
Of course we would want to get Romeo's assistance in asking SRD for "permission", making it clear its for the Watch, which I think he would grant.

IQ,
What I thought would be very cool would be to organize and film a LARP event re enacting Lord Mhoram's Victory or the Battle Of Soaring Woodheleven with dozens perhaps hundreds of participants getting to play parts. Something fairly easy to find an appropriate out door setting in a park etc. Get 4 or 5 cameras running at the same time recording the action from different locations and angles. Then it could be edited together to form a cohesive scene. Perhaps SRD could be invited to watch the proceedings or even participate.
The home made costumes and lack of authenticity would be a problem however stirring performances by the principal actors could make all the difference. If I were able to participate I would insist on playing the role of Larry Cavewight #3 who can be seen cowering in fear in the background.
Naturally this all sounds like an impossible task to organize so I'm guessing a more intimate film making project would be appropriate.

sounds fun. Battle of Soaring Woodhelvin would be great, especially to capture that horrid battle, but Giants and Griffins would be hard to do.
I an itching to do a film project, but have NO experience with it. Id love to make a 10 minute film of a scene which everyone here at the Watch would recognize and do it really, really well. One that I'd like to do is when Winhome Rue (Gay) comes to Revelstone in TIW. Or Saltheart and TC in the boat. Or TC, Drool and then Lord Foul at the beginning of LFB, which could be done well and would make a great trailer.

Making movies is much harder and much easier than many people think. Quite a lot of what would work for you as a film maker would be deciding what you want to get out of the film or scene you are trying to create.
With regard to the Chronicles, unless you are an aspiring CGI artist, duplicating the look of The Land and its unique characters would be very difficult without a tremendous amount of work and probably a bit of cash.
Costumes and makeup for the human characters are quite possible with easily available materials. Beyond that it gets really difficult.
I can imagine the scene you mentioned in the Close where Rue addresses the council. Its a powerful scene. Again the humans and Ramen characters are a matter of acting, costumes and makeup which are achievable. Recreating the council chamber of Revelstone is another matter entirely.
If you decided that the limitations of setting were secondary then it is possible to film the scene's drama very professionally and in an emotionally effective way. However if the lack of a proper setting diminishes the credibility of the scene to the point of being ineffective then there's a real problem. Of course it all comes down to what means the most to you.

I singled this part out because the discussion so far is interesting...the problems exist, but there are ways to deal with them. For instance, the Close scene seems very difficult for the background...but green screening isn't all that expensive or hard anymore. So a decent scene painter or unusually lit/shot existing structures could be used.
OTOH...even 1 on 1 combat is extremely difficult without pro's in every position. [well...actors can be non-pro fighters if reasonably athletic/graceful and everyone else does their jobs.] And the difficulty rises almost exponentially for every additional person. The Giants and Griffins are easier than good combat.

agreed. I just had a thought -
what about the scene where TC delivers Lord Fouls Message to the council?
man, if done right, with the right actor to deliver that message -- well, that would be awesome.

Sounds like a great idea! Obviously I can't participate coz I'm in Australia, but I'll watch with interest to see if this gets off the ground.

That would be a great scene because it doesn't require as much setting as such - no fights, action etc. But it could be very powerful with close ups of people, reactions etc.

I'd have to go back and re-read it...but if it happens anything like I remember it happening, I agree it could be awesome.
