I couldn't find this addressed anywhere else so I thought I'd bring this up here because I only thought of this during my (first and so far only) read of TLD: TC's Haruchai/Bloodguard protector/companion are first Bannor, then Brinn and finally Branl, IIRC. I had the thought that Brinn is Bannor's descendant and that Branl is Brinn's descendant. The thought probably came when/after Brinn appeared to TC and/or without Branl, leading me to notice the letters B/r in all three names. But you say the Bloodguard/Haruchai are unmarried/wifeless and childless! I don't remember where, either in the books or on the watch or in the GI somewhere, Bannor or someone saying or alluding to the fact that all or most or some Haruchai have/had wives and/or children before going east to the Land.

Thoughts? Objections? This has been stated/theorized/confirmed before? The reason I started this thread is because thematically, I thought that if true TC has always been protected by Bannor's family (unless I misremembered and Brinn was Linden Avery's Bloodguard/Haruchai protector/bodyguard/companion). I wasn't thinking that while reading, I was just thinking hey- Bannor,Brinn,Branl- that makes sense, right.

Maybe. We know Stave had at least one son. The Humbled that dies defending Jeremiah.

It could just as easily be an honoring of famous figures in their history or a limited choice of names among the Haruchai.

Bannor told TC in LFB that his wife had died two thousand years ago. If he had any children, and they were not part of the vow made in Kevin's time, they would have been long dead.

We know nothing about any of the other Haruchai's families apart from Stave, and we didn't even find out he had a son until he was killed.

Believe me, if it was possible to draw up a Harauchai family tree I'd have done so before now!

Bannor might have remarried after the end of TPTP

Could have, I suppose, but he was pretty old by then, and he was intending to go with the Ranyhin after dropping off the heels of the staff of law at Revelstone. Problem is, the only time we ever hear about the family of a Haruchai is Stave and Galt. They are so close!

Oh then my thought that Brinn was a descendant of Bannor then Branl is a descendant of Brinn doesn't make sense if Bannor's wife has been dead and gone two thousand years during LFB. Unless I remember how the Bloodguard are replaced is correct : when one dies a replacement magically appears from west of the Land, so a child of Bannor before he became a Bloodguard could theoretically have had descendants unto Brinn and Brinn likewise unto Branl. But Probably SRD wasn't thinking of this though if how he named Galt is also how he named Bannor,Brinn and Branl-he just made up a likely sounding name. Hard to think of his limitations but perhaps just a coincidence from the limited letters of the alphabet that sound right for a Haruchai name. Oh well just a thought I had.
