fwiw..grass stain metaphor =the promise...Linden's promise that she would find an answer to Wildwoods worry about when there were no more protectors...The Grass Stains are like reminders..a string tied around a finger so you don't forget,,,The grass stains are like, the Land reminding Linden of her commitment to the land, its beauty....Wildwood removed the reminder cuz she had lived up to her committment..the adamantcy(spl) of the ur-Mahrtir.....imho.

for real mind blowing stuff..consider..The Grass stains are The Land reminding Linden in Runes..what she has to do in Fatal Remnant to go back before Runes then come forward to Against All Things and come to a solution in The Last Dark by going back before Runes...Its like Spaceballs..
