Shout out (I am alive!) from Jos

Hi folks, you have probably heard of the two bombs that went off in Jos yesterday. While we heard them in my classroom, it really had no effect directly on my life or that of my little flock of children. So I am grateful.

Now I wade through the usual FB posts telling me that OMG we NEED to come 'home' right NOW!!!!!! We have no such plans today, but that could change-- we just don't know.

This is just to let you know that Stag of the Dawn and I are fine and going about life as usual. (Buck and Fawn are in the US.) I am typing from my 3rd Grade classroom. Peace to all!

Glad to hear you are okay, Deer. The news is frightening from Nigeria and the bombs in Jos seem to have been particularly horrific.

Stay safe!

We had one or two topics about Nigeria in the Tank but seeing you post can help us breathe a sigh of relief that you haven't suffered negatively from the goings-on there.

I am afraid that I did not update the Nigeria thread with news of the bombs, though. I shall rectify that today. I dropped the ball on that one.

Glad to hear you're safe Deer. It certainly sounds unpleasant and dangerous over there at the moment.

Do keep your head down, Deer.

I have to ask: any girls in your class?

wayfriend, head down is no way to live. Yes, I do veil myself and lower my face maybe once a year but we tend to avoid those situations anyway. We have girls, lots of beautiful girls in our school. I think that the mass kidnapping was one of the stupidest moves BH could have made, it has really turned people against them.

This past week was terrible, they attacked several villages to raid for supplies and when the military learned of their whereabouts they basically bombed the villages into oblivion. But, it shows they are desperate because they are being closed in upon.

Something else you didn't see in the news was that here in Jos, there were NO RETALIATORY ATTACKS. No raids by "Christians" on "Muslims" or vice-versa. This was a big step for Jos.

So we are hopeful. Next year is the elections and all hell could break loose for a while but we are hoping the disruptions are minimal and life can go on. I spent all week as a judge at a national student convention where kids aged 9-12 competed in music, cultural dance, sports, board games, art, dramatic and poetry recitations, and academics. It was a great reminder of how creative, passionate, and beautiful this country can be at its best. I needed that. If you are FB friends with me you got to enjoy a little of it (but the network there was not so great so I couldn't upload much).

Anyway your hugs, thoughts, and prayers are all very much valued and appreciated and reciprocated!! G|

Especially this bit:

You know you've made a mistake when even AQ condemns what you did.
