Where on earth is the Land?
If you were going to select a known geographic location for the Land, where would it be? Even if the Land's features are unique, it would still tend to have a certain geographic flavor. There are places in the far east that seem appropriate with arid mountainous wastes on one side and the ocean on the other with lush forests in between.
What known geographical location most closely matches that of the Land?
p.s. I haven't looked that hard. If there is a similar thread here abouts I apologize.

Well, I think I have to say New Zealand. If it can be Middle Earth and 19th C. Japan (Last Samurai), I don't think being The Land would be that much of a stretch.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

After seeing LOTR I have to agree. It all seems to be there.Syl wrote:Well, I think I have to say New Zealand. If it can be Middle Earth and 19th C. Japan (Last Samurai), I don't think being The Land would be that much of a stretch.

Disregard my previous statement, The Land is a future world of the current Earth. so the geography we know of today does not fit into the topographical outlines we read in TCTC..
we must therefore imagine what will happen in possibly four thousand years,, global warming earthquakes, nuclear wars, continental plate shifting, that will result in a new Earth. Then we may perchance be able to predict where the Land will end up. By my calculations it will be 50*N 80*W
which is approximately right where Canada is Today. But this Also Explains why TC and Linden understand the Language of the Land.

Interesting points. However, if what you say is correct, then you must allow for the new species to develop (Cavewights, Kresh, etc) - which would be millions of years. Language also can change alot in four thousand years.TRC wrote:Disregard my previous statement, The Land is a future world of the current Earth. so the geography we know of today does not fit into the topographical outlines we read in TCTC..

Why should it be millions of years ?
with all the junk we are polluting the land, I mean the earth, I think a new species could generate or evolve within a thousnd years,, look at all the diseases we've created in the last 2000 years. Plus with the first desecration of the land AKA Nuclear war what do you think the survivors will look like, um maybe cave wights and wayhnhim ?
