Do we need another film about Peter Pan?

The first thing I thought when I saw the trailer for the new Peter Pan film was ”How many Peter Pan films do we need?” It seems as though Peter Pan has been the subject of television, animated feature and film for as long as I’ve been alive. And he has. But something struck me when I sat and thought for a few minutes. There hasn’t been a single big budget treatment of the original story. HOOK was a sequel and any other relevant Peter Pan films have been depicted through animation. I almost lost my balance when I realized that this film had actually been a long time in coming. Though I haven’t seen it, I have read the reviews and it seems promising. I liked the Peter Pan story when I was a kid and I was very interested when Spielberg released HOOK but it seems I had overlooked the fact that this timeless story has never been given a truly spectacular send up. Maybe it finally has.

Good point. And maybe it will be cool. Hook was great!
But what we REALLY need is another Marilyn Monroe movie! I wish they could release one every week! Just can't get enough!! (yes, lots and lots of sarcasm)

This one appears to play to the darker side of the book, and that intrigues me. What I'd like to see is a movie adaptation of American McGee's Alice in Wonderland, though I've heard vague rumors it's in planning.

Marilyn Monroe eh?

There might be a few movie subjects that have been beaten into the ground.

I need it. I love Peter and the Lost Boys and all that. To pieces even.

Matrixman wrote:Hmmm, sorry, but Spielberg's Hook didn't do much for me. In fact, I thought (and still think) it was one of his worst movies. The pacing was tired, the acting was tired, and the fights were a joke. Maybe I just don't care for the whole Peter Pan mythology. It's just lightweight children's fluff.

Perhaps a serious attempt at the subject matter might make a difference.

Ooooh I saw it last night. It's ok. I wish it was better though. I love Peter Pan... I was peter for Halloween one year in fact. I loved the parrot in the movie!
