Blake's 7

i recently discovered this TV show that first aired decades ago and I have to say I was hooked by the second episode.

There was a thread about a possible revival from a few years back, but I guess that never happened.

I'm currently several episodes into series 3. When I get through with that, my only recourse (short of re-watching) will be to dip into the Big Finish range of Blake's 7 audio stories and novels.

Anyone else a fan of this classic show?

I've heard of it for years, but I've never seen a single episode.

I am enjoying it as well. Into Series 4 now. After that, there will be re-watching. :)

god, I remember it airing when I was a kid; I was mad on anything sci-fi and quite enjoyed it, though really i can barely remember a thing about it other than it was super grim.

might youtube some a bit later and see if it piques any enthusiasm ..

Loved this in the 70's, one of the few programs I went out of my way to watch. There was talk (and you can probably find it on You Tube) of a movie or new episodes: search for the actor who played Avon, Paul Darrow.

One thing about it though: Blake was missing for most of the time and I can't ever remember there being seven of them!

8O

Edit: Here's the link to the Paul Darrow interview; go to 3.30.

Yeah, there was talk of a revival, but nothing ever came of it as far as I know.

I"m saving that playlist to listen to later. :D
Paul Darrow is awesome and Avon has to be the most interesting character in the series.

Big Finish has a bunch of Blake's 7 audiostories and novels, including some audiodramas with the original cast.

Blake was in the first two series and then he disappeared and Avon took over as the leader of the group.

I watched the last episode of series 4 tonight.

*Sigh* Why does it have to end that way?
Spoiler
It's emotionally devastating!

Oh, and I've read that Zen (the computer on the Liberator) was counted as one of the seven in the first series.

I think Orac may have been counted in later series. And maybe Slave, also.

Yeah, computers as people. :P

But in juxtaposition Avon was cast as (in essence) a computer..... people more dispassionate than computers and computers more considerate than people.....

But even counting the computer(s) I think that was only six!

No, it was definitely seven in at least the first series.

I think I watched all of them when they were originally shown. My dad like it too (he liked Star Trek) so that's one of the reasons I got to watch all of them.

For a low budget show, it was done really well. Much like Doctor Who I guess.

Yes, the show was definitely well done. Interesting characters and plots.

I think of it as the dark side of Star Trek. ;)

Though I have to say this: What is it with Terry Nation and dystopias?
Oddly enough, he apparently started out in comedy.

And then we get the Daleks. Which are a rather comically terrifying enemy, I suppose. :P

Dipped my toe in and watched the first two episodes on youtube the other night, really enjoyed it despite some flat spots.

As I mentioned I'd watched it as a kid but there's no way I would have understood even a smidgen of it at the time. Still, the grim tone and a few of the graphics I'd managed to retain.

The plot is elegant in it's simplicity so far, and I'm tempted to watch another episode tonight (it's competing with my Last Airbender series re-watch).

Paul Darrow indeed stands out with his charismatic performance, already.

I still love it.

You know, there are audio stories of Blake's 7 available. I picked a bunch of them up on sale. And now the price has been permanently reduced. Some good stories there.

Big Finish has come out with some new full-cast Blake's 7 audio dramas recently. They're really quite good.

Also, A Rebellion Reborn is an interesting re-imagining of Blake's 7, in audio drama form.
