Wizard's Cure (Poem)

WIZARD’S CURE
He takes his spell book out, opens it wide
looks at the intricate markings inside
his heart is aching, his head filled with death
the love of his life just drew her last breath
His queen, his love, once lovely and fair
now cold as the grave, her spirit not there
he cannot see what the future could hold
for a man now broken, feeling spent and old
So he turns to his magic to find the cure
to find his love’s spirit, fragile and pure
shout the right words of power and then
give fresh life to her earthly vessel again
He bends and speaks the first spell on his knees
to find and snare her spirit before it flees
in a bursting flash, the room fills with white light
and her spirit glows strongly, sparkling and bright
She looks at her love where he kneels in his robes
beseeches him distressingly to just let her go
“You must release me now,” she cried
“My time is over, I must leave your side”
He takes one last look at the beauty before his eyes
and releases his net of magic, letting her spirit rise
she returns a loving look with her heart in her gaze
a vision he will remember until the end of his days
Her light leaves the room, and darkness descends
his tears fall silently, his torment without end
he must find the strength to push off the floor
endure his grief and return to his life once more
