There have been a few films in my life that I have been looked forward to and when I watched them I was was bitterly disappointed. There is one in particular that stands out in my mind. The Final Countdown. This film built me up from the first frame into thinking I was in for a treat. The USS Nimitz is sucked through a dimensional vortex and ends up back in time to just before the Japanese attack of Pearl harbor. A modern aircraft carrier is in position to stop the worst defeat in US history. All indications are that the captain, well played by Kirk Douglas, has accepted his fate and has decieded to act in the best interest of the USA. Then the bloody vortex shows up and pulls the plug before anything cool happens. What the flake is going on?!?

Phantom menace was awful and I was psyched to see it. BIIIIIG letdown.

Godzilla was a better over-all movie but I was so fired up for it that it was still a big letdown. What was up with the scale discrepancies with Godzilla that kept cropping up!?!?!

I agree about Godzilla. I should have listed it first thing. I was beside myself waiting for G to get the american big budget treatment and I couldn't believe what they gave me. Yes G was inconsistent in every way including size. ugh.

Wow! Just goes to show you... I really like T3. I love the way they did NOT save the day, and that Arnold and the girl's father were lying to them the whole time, working together without working together, in order to save them.

I also liked DD. Yeah, the part where DD is stabbed by the sai, then beaten a good deal, yet somehow manages to beat Kingpin, is a bit annoying. But that's comic books anyway. (And the comics the movie was inspired by weren't perfect either. I'll never believe Bullseye could beat Elektra! She's certainly one of the greatest martial artists in Marvel. Bulls has obviously picked up some skill over the years, but please! And like she isn't used to people throwing small weapons at her! Or that she couldn't find the strength to fight back after the card hit its mark, hanging limp in his grasp so he can skewer her, yet manages to crawl blocks to Matt's after the skewer.)

Anyway, my GIGANTIC disappointments were the second Highlander movie and Temple of Doom. I expected SOOOO much more from those sequels!

FF, my problem with T3 wasn't that it was a bad film, although it did take a very familar path. My problem was that I had something else built up in my head. I saw a clip early on that showed a legion of terminators marching around in the future. I want very much to explore the future battle. I was expecting outrageous special effects. A terminator battle royal. Something tells me that the way TIII ended that I might get my wish in TIV. DD struck me about the face and head like a wild billy club attack. I liked it. I have it on dvd. I just couldn't ignore the more rediculous problems. Problems they should have known better than to allow. Oh well. I absolutley hated Highlander 2. Insulting is a kind word for it. Temple of Doom was just grim in conparison to the other films.

This is one of those comments that could go either way. Its either Dardevil!!!! is my most disappointing film!!! OR Daredevil? How dare you impune my most beloved superhero character. I shall trounce you with my uru billy club! Begone cretin!
I suspect its the latter, danlo. We've discussed the DD film before. I recall you weren't fanboy level supportive of it. I will understand if you say it wasn't very disappointing to you. javascript:emoticon(':lol:')

The Lost World: Jurassic Park

The original movie was among Spielberg's very best. Then he makes this heartless, mechanical sequel that rides roughshod over the audience's feelings, completely devoid of all the warmth, sensitivity and child-like sense of awe that suffused the original. "Disappointed" is an understatement. I felt betrayed.

Episode I: The Phantom Menace

Speaking of betrayed...actually, this movie had some exciting moments, but they were few, and they couldn't make up for the general hollowness or blandness of the whole thing. The vital spirit of the original trilogy just wasn't there.

Superman IV: The Quest For Peace

Or as I would have titled it, The Quest For A Script. And A Budget. I was cringing from every scene in this turkey. It was sad to see the Superman movies sink to such depths as this, after the greatness of the original.

I thought I was in for a good superhero adventure. What I got was a sick, disgusting, demeaning, demoralizing, dehumanizing travesty that easily ranks among the worst films I have ever seen in my life. And this is from the same director who gave us the humane and noble Spider-Man??

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

There is a good movie hidden in this mess somewhere. Okay, so we've reached the "center" of the galaxy, where we see this eerie, glowing planet that surely must hold terrible wonders for us. Then we get down there...and it's Earth! Blue skies! Desert! Al's Diner! Clearly, the movie ran out of money right here.

Lost World - Though I wasn't as disappointed with the film as you were I can't argue with your points.

EP 1 - What can I add. That is exactly how I feel.

Supes IV - Wow. I couldn't believe my eyes when I first watched it. I should have seen it coming after the trend that Supes III set. Poooo!

Darkman - Here I diverge with you a bit. I was disturbed by Darkman but I didn't think it was going to be a good superhero adventure when I wen't to see it. I assumed it was going to be a dark, somewhat gruesome film with a bit of a quirk thanks to Sam Raimi. Thats pretty much what I got so I wasn't that disappointed.

Star Trek V - "sigh" ugh. I went to the theater thinking "There is a good movie hidden in this mess." I cut it plenty of slack while and after I viewed it. Then I bought the vhs tape and confirmed my worst suspicions. This pieice of crap never had a chance. I should start a thread called "Just How Bad Is Star Trek V." I didn't list it as one of my all time disappointing films because I had heard alot about it before I went and I knew Big Bill Shatner was directing so I had very low expectations to begin with. Of course the film sank below even that..........ugh...........

Off the top of my head - Panic Room. Waited years for a new Fincher movie, and that just didn't seem worth it.

The Phantom Menace. But then again, I'm not a Star Wars fan. Still, it's a BAD film.

I found Mystic River to be a big let down. I knew whodunnit halfway through the movie!!!!

It was sooo cool until you found out it was a monster and not a person.

Watched the first 10 minutes of Intolerable Cruelty, took it back, stupidest thing I've ever seen....

The experience must have been intolerably cruel, then.
