Naming Conventions

Has anyone noticed that female characters tend to be named similiar to their parents, and the male characters are not.
So we have :-
Atiaran daughter of Tiaran
Elena daughter of Lena
Osondrea daughter of Sondrea
Amatan daughter of Matin
and so on..
OTOH, for the guys we have :-
Prothall son of Dwillian
Mhoram son of Variol
Hyrim son of Hoole
Kevin son of Loric
and so on..
Holdover from the days where women were perhaps thought of as family wealth to be married off perhaps? Certainly in the Land in Covenant's time, women were more independent.

Seems sort of opposite to our societies practice of passing the male names down (Covenant Jr) Henry VIII, etc.
Althuogh, many older societies were more matriarcal....
need to look into that some

I think that it's only the oldest daughter in each family that has a name like her mother's, and then only if she's second generation, so to speak. It never says, but I'm pretty sure that Atiaran's mother's name was probably Tiaran. But Atiaran's sister's name is very different (can't remember it off the top of my head). Lena would be the "Second generation" oldest daughter after Tiaran, so has a different name. But her oldest daughter is named after her with the first letter being a vowel, being Elena. if Lena had a second daughter her name would not have been like her mother's. If Elena had a daughter then she would have a different name, and her oldest daughter's daughter would have the daughter's name with a vowel in fromt of it. If Elena had a bunch of daughters like Loerya, then they would all have names unlike their mother but each of their oldest daughters would have her own mother's name with the vowel in front. So you get things like Elena daughter of Lena and Amatin daughter of Matin. But Elena's and Amatin's daughters would have names unlike their mother's names. I don't think Loerya's oldest daughter's name is ever given (only the baby's), but it's probably Aloerya or Iloerya or something like that. (I hope this makes some kind of sense, it's getting late and I know I've managed to confuse myself!)
