Finished it today. It's an enjoyable read, but breaks no new ground for King. It feels somewhat similar to everything from Dreamcatcher to The Tommyknockers to Cell.

And King liked the story so much, he wrote a sequel....Finders Keepers. It follows the detective and his associates from the first book, so it's like U.S. Marshalls was to The Fugitive.

Once again, nothing groundbreaking, but a good, solid story.

yeah...i agree, no new ground broken but apparently King thinks so.
at least it seems he feels it's a departure for him. i've heard (or read) him
comment a couple of times that it was different for him writing
this type of detective story which seems weird to me but hey, he
had a new experience writing these two (and it seems there's to
be a third featuring Bill Hodges) so good for him.
that's not an easy feat (to have a new experience writing) when you're as practiced as he is at what he does. 8)

Finally read it. Think y'all said it...nothing new. Not bad, but not great. Typical Stephen King.

Didn't know there was a sequel...will check it out if I ever see it, won't go out of my way though.

I've enjoyed the detective books as a whole.
