The light of the world has significantly dimmed today.
He will be greatly missed.

Massive bummer.

Rest in peace Mr. Nimoy.

So sad. :(

He had a long, wonderful life, though. But it's still sad.

Totally agree. I was almost as bummed when Deforest Kelley died.

A classic.

And so's the video.

RIP Mr. Nimoy. I salute you, and thanks for scaring the crap out of me with "In Search Of" frequently.

Yeah, that's a pretty good innings.

Requiescat in pace.

That about sums it up. I'm not ashamed to say that Star Trek helped me get through some pretty rough times growing up. So yeah. Close to home.

Rest in peace Mr. Spock. The only quote I can remember is "There's life, Jim, but not as we know it" and that comes from a song.

Definitely an icon. The original Star Trek was the only series I watched faithfully.

In Part I of his book YOU AND I, Leonard Nimoy wrote:In my heart

Is the seed of the tree

Which will be me.

Nourished by understanding

Warmed by friends

Fed by loved ones

Matured by wisdom

Tempered by tears.

PATIENCE...

The seasons pass,

The seed sprouts.

The young branches begin to form,

To reach out for new experiences,

New contacts,

To test their size and shape

As a child discovers

Its own hands and feet.

Speed is glory

Speed is fame and fortune

Speed is a gold medal

Speed is honor

Speed is success

Speed is a thief

Some rush about in preparation

Some struggle to be nearest to the gate.

Some climb to be at the highest place

And yet,

we shall all be born.

All will move about

In time

And space.

Life comes and goes.

Laughter of the past

Rings through empty hallways.

The seasoning is bittersweet.

Searching for me,

I wander

Through a house of mirrors.

I see a myriad of images,

But none are mine.

Only distorted reflections

Of a stranger.

Someone I've met

But don't really know.

I cry out my name,

But the hollow echo that responds

Tells me I must wait.

It is not yet time.

I am not alone.

There are times when I think I am,

Feel like I am

Alone and lost.

But as the river bends,

And the drifting traveler

Sees the unfolding of new vistas,

New horizons,

New landmarks,

I find a new communion

With the turn of time,

A new sense of

Universal connection.

And then...

One day in the spring of my life

The buds and the blossoms appear

I am alive

I am here

I have joined the earth

Like a tidepool...

Filled by the mist

And the great waves.

Giving of myself

To the air and the earth.

Living at peace

With the sun and moon.

Cousin to the fog and rain.

The melody is simple

and the words are sweet.

I am not immortal.

Whatever I put off for later

May never be.

Whoever doesn't know now

That I love them

May never know.

I have killed time,

I have squandered it.

I have lost days...weeks...

As a man of unlimited wealth

Might drop coins on the street

And never look back.

I know now, that there will be an end.

A limit.

But there is time

Valuable and precious time

To walk,

talk,

breathe.

Time to touch,

taste,

care.

To warm the child

Who is cold and lonely

There is time to love

I promise myself...

I will.

I am

I am ready

I am ready to give

I am ready to give and receive

I am ready to give and receive love

Indeed. That so poignantly captures the wisdom that one can only be thankful did not come too late!

Tall, dark, and handsome. Deep voice, infectious smile. A renaissance man. It was predictable he'd attain fame and fortune. But what an odd road he took.

His first autobiography was I am not Spock. His second was I am Spock. There's a whole lot of wisdom and spiritual growth between those two, I would think.

I was an avid fan of In Search Of.

I never knew until he passed away that he directed Three Men and a Baby.

I saw this yesterday and thought it was worthy sharing.
I was told a story once about the early days of the Star Trek reboot. Before they solidified the script Abrams and team knew that they needed a bridge from the last series to this one. They toyed with Spock, they toyed with Kirk and they even toyed with both together.

Remember for a long time Nimoy wanted to seperate himself from the character, so they decided they'd approach them both and see who showed interest and make their decision on which way to go from there. They went to Shatner first and told him the story and how they were thinking about doing it. His reaction was that he'd come back, but only if it was Kirk without Spock.

Then they went to Nimoy, told him the story and how Spock would fit in if he agreed. He loved it and said he would do it. He only had one question: "Do you think you could find a place in it for my friend Bill?"

You've seen the movie, so you know how that turned out. [link]

Sad to see him go. My dad was never a sci-fi fan, but we would sit and watch the original Star Trek show when I was a kid because he liked it.

Far too often when someone dies their output gets tagged with all kinds of hyperbolic fluff, but in his case I think it's true that he created one of the truly iconic figures of sci-fi.
