The first human clinical trial for a groundbreaking new drug that has the potential to turn off the gene that causes Huntington’s disease.
Dr. Blair Leavitt, a professor in UBC’s department of medical genetics heading up the city’s part of the international clinical trial, said the drug has the potential to directly treat the underlying cause of Huntington’s disease.
“We’re just about to embark on the very first human clinical trials of gene silencing in Huntington’s disease,” Leavitt told Metro. “This is really the first time we feel that we have something that’s going to have a major impact on the disease.”
