Watch Forum Renovations Round Two
Posted: Thu Aug 13, 2015 7:22 pm
by kevinswatch
Last summer I made changes to the structure of forums based on suggestions from this topic:
kevinswatch.ihugny.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=24365
You may have noticed, I've started messing around with things again (mainly with the gaming forums). None of this is permanent. I'm just trying to get a feel for what seems best.
The goal is to shake things up a little, try to reorganize so things make sense, and possibly reduce the number of forums if necessary.
Suggestions are always welcome.

I suggest stopping fixating on reducing the number of forums.

Haven't people been fruitlessly asking for some store items for a while?

I actually disagree with this. I think the number of forums can be daunting for newcomers. And it always disperses our conversations into too many places.

After coming back ... it took me a while to find where video games lived! Why I didn't think of Scatterlings ... I do not know!

The groupings of forums makes sense, but it feels a little weird having the SRD stuff below all the Waymeet stuff.

Unfortunately, the Waymeet stuff probably trends better on searches, I'm thinking.

That's an interesting thought. Have we ever had members who found us through a non SRD-related search? Nothing wrong with that, and it's certainly possible, though it seems a little odd.

Well, tons came to GT for Pantheon, but they were brought to play by SRD fan members.

I'd hardly say tons.

And they weren't searching for us.
Hmmm, I believe we have had one who arrived via a search for something that landed him in the 'Tank.
The positioning of the forums has nothing to do with search though. It's purely a matter of activity.
The SRD forums, important as they are, are not very active, whereas things like Gen Disc are.

True, but most of us originally came for the SRD stuff. We'd find the Waymeet stuff even if it was below the SRD stuff.

You would. But if you came for the SRD stuff, you'd be even more likely to find it, because you'd be looking for it.

True enough.
