Seriously. Every day this week I have basically had to do other people's work because they don't think anyone else's schedule or responsibilities matter.

There is a Nigerian insult, that someone is "Not serious". It has a lot more oomph in their culture. Lately at the school where I teach, I feel like the classroom teachers are the only ones who are serious, who get anything done, who listen, who think that getting it right is actually important.

I get angry when after three years of complaining the maintenance men STILL want to use varnish and paint spray just a few yards away from classrooms full of children during school hours. All that solvent, noise, and fumes are just great. And it's all "Sorry, sorry, sorry" when I remind them AGAIN that this activity is not conducive to the main point of the school, and their jobs, being there. Duh!!!

The whole school year has been going like that, but I don't want to bore you with an endless list. I love my job but several times a day I feel like quitting lately because I feel alone in caring about doing it right. Probably the other teachers feel this way too but we wouldn't know because running so short-staffed we hardly even lay eyes on each other, let alone have a conversation.

There's a saying I made up, (I regularly quote myself in my head) which goes like this:
"If someone is angry, maybe there's a reason."
It applies to me a lot lately.

In completely unrelated news, to kick off the academic year, my church is having someone preach on CAIN AND ABEL.
Gonna go link you a NEEDTOBREATHE song in vespers now! <3

Love you!!!!!

I may have to adopt that. My minion is fond of saying that such-and-such coworker has 'lost their mind,' and I thought we were making progress in the communication department, but it just clicked today that he was using that to mean that the person had forgotten something.

Hee...I like it, too. I wish it meant more than "you're kidding, right?" most of the time. But you can probably make it work, if you have really good "I'm not kidding" tone/delivery voice, and maybe a strong pointer finger.

[[[POINT----> YOU are not serious. {cross arms and glare}.

I've been known to say [ripping off and modifying a thing by an 80's-ish comedian] "I've lost my mind...well, no, I know where it is, it's just when I try to think, someone else is using it."

Anyway---At least, Deer, it seems like the teachers haven't adopted/fallen to "well, no one else is serious, why should I be?" trap.

It kills me that the two options in your poll were "Yes!!!" and "Wuuut??"

Dark humor because really, people not being serious *is* well, a big deal and basically... dangerous to their fellow humans.

Thanks for all the support. I did find out something really great. In a few weeks, the whole maintenance shed will be moved AWAY from the classroom area of the school. About time!! Been working on that for several years.

A couple people chewed out, some grace found for those who genuinely messed up, and I am ready for Friday. Happy weekend, all. Now I get to slack off for a few hours, anyway...
