I haz Gap series on my Kindle. I am just starting my first read and I have to say that all the rape and domination is a rough go. There is certainly no one to love yet. Ha ha. Anyway, I plan to stick with it but I feel dirty after reading. 8O

Yeah, The Real Story is pretty rough. The whole series is a bit dark, and nearly every character has shades of grey. But it is definitely worth sticking with. Keep up the read, and you'll start seeing who the (net) good and bad guys are.

The Real Story is like a preliminary scene played out in front of the curtain. There is no clue how vast the stage will be when the curtain lifts.

Yes, it is a rough go...and you may also struggle with Forbidden Knowledge for slightly different reasons. Stick with it. The last three books build an incredible amount of dramatic tension...and when you consider that SRD wrote these over twenty years ago, some of the characterizations and events seem almost prescient.

Well said. It's a brutal journey, but worth every step.

First time huh? I'm jealous.

Yeah, TRS is a bit rough, but it's all so worth it. This is one of the best sci-fi series ever.

It's interesting - I'm rereading at the moment, and am finding that I care about almost all the characters (with some notable exceptions!). It is SRD's greatest work without a doubt (in my mind). They are pretty much all flawed in some way. I don't think I'll appreciate any series as much as this one. Time will tell I guess!

Deer, I know school started this week and you've been busy. Still, please keep us informed about your progress and impressions.

I agree, Deer, that The Real Story is a very brutal read. So brutal that if the book had any other name as author other than SRD, I've have chucked it in the trash. And even though I knew it was SRD, I had to have the encouragement of Savor Dam, StevieG, and Avatar to continue onward. But Deer, I'm glad I did read on and I'm grateful to all who encouraged me to do so! The last three books, when you start getting "the big picture" of all that's going on, make the series a compelling read! Please don't lose heart!!! :cross:

Deer, definitely persevere. The Gap series is amazing.

If you still feel the same at the end of Forbidden Knowledge, then let's talk :).

I concur. The last three books are impossible to put down. Impossible, I say.

The suspense...!

Guessing either:

1. Deer is busy with teaching.
2. Deer is avoiding spoilers.
3. Deer is too engrossed in the series to comment.
4. Deer is too grossed out by the series to comment.

Hoping it's not #4.

1. Busy with teaching. Reading mostly a few paragraphs before passing out from exhaustion. That being said, I did finish Forbidden Knowledge. Still not loving it. And beginning to feel THOOLAH-ish toward Morn. Like why the &^%$# does she let Nick say all that stuff to Davies while she lies there gaping??
2. Avoiding spoilers is easy so long as I do not read any threads in this forum. Heheh.
3. Engrossed, yes.
4. Outgrossed? Egrossed? Exogrossed.... Yeah, that too.

I do like Min Donner. There is that....

Only a couple chapters into This Day. I am taking your word for it. I bought the whole shootin' match anyway, so may as well read it. (Years ago I read some quote about, never judge a book till you've read 100 pages. And by the time you read that much you may as well finish.)

Glad to hear you are pressing on. Rest assured you'll see Min some more. Keep us posted.

Please tell me you're reading Dark and Hungry after Forbidden Knowledge. That's book three; This Day is book five.

Yes, what SD said. I will admit that I did not read the books in the proper order, but jumping from two to five is not something I would recommend.
