Excited about a new epic fantasy trilogy from SRD. And as a librarian I approve fully the plot. "The trilogy follows a prince who embarks on a desperate quest to find a sorcerous library that holds the knowledge required to save his kingdom."
Something there is in beauty.

Well great news like this bring old Lurkers like me out of Lifeswallower :)

Intriguing title "The Seventh Decimate". As usual with SRD I expect that 'decimate' will mean something different what we'd think...

StephenRDonaldson.com News wrote:SEVENTH DECIMATE: D&A and a publication change

Version 6 (!) of SEVENTH DECIMATE (Book One of THE GREAT GOD'S WAR) has finally achieved "delivery and acceptance." At the same time, both Berkley in the US and Gollancz in the UK have decided to postpone publication for a month. The book is now scheduled for November 2017. Hardcover, e-book, and audio; paperback eventually.

Damn I love a good quest! It's where fantasy literature achieves its highest order. :D

Interesting how fast SRD seems to have followed the completion of the Chrons with new works. Can't remember how long it is since TLD was published, but we've had the two novellas and now a (presumably only first book of a) new trilogy in the offing in a few short years - that's a high output in comparison to his usual rate of output. ;)

I love the title. I salivate just thinking about it. "Seventh Decimate" is so perfectly Donaldsonian! :swoon:

Decimate means to my understanding, either one tenth thereof or to destroy (no googling I promise). Hard to see what even SRD could make more of than that - but I agree, if anyone can, he can!

I assume from the form of the title that it means some aspect of time/world/society or other whole is divided into ten parts, and something important happens/is done to/by the members of the 7th.
I assume also other implications possible in it [[like Decimates are those designated by society to perform decimations. And the 7th one rebels. Or this is the 7th campaign of Decimating. Or the people/country/whatever are the survivors/ancestors/inheritors of the 7th such. Lots of possibilites.]]
And 7th means something too, cuz, duh...he's addicted to myth-carrying numbers.

"Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation."
the hyperbole is a beauty...for we are then allowed to say a little more than the truth...and language is more efficient when it goes beyond reality than when it stops short of it.
